Bulletin - April 2018

My my what a month. I don't think we've ever had such an eventful month in the history of Clan Quest. A lot of people have put many hours into making sure it all went smoothly (while yours truly was mostly on vacation). It has been a tumultuous month, but I think we have once again approached a stable situation. So without further ado, let's get through the biggest changes that happened this month.

New Constitution
Let's start with the elephant in the room: the new Constitution is now in effect. After a unanimous vote, the clan has moved to a new phase of its existence. The new Constitution formalises a lot of things we've already been doing for a while, and also introduced a framework to expand our user base beyond RuneScape.
The new Constitution could now have come what it is today without all your input, so thanks for everybody who took the time to read through the entire document to comment on it. It was a long journey, but I truly believe we are now in a better position to focus on what Clan Quest has become known for: being a tight community where everybody can join and have fun with others.

New Clan Councillor: Shane
Most changes in this bulletin have been caused by the Constitution one way or another. For this one, however, there was a lot more happening. Over the past few months, Shane has gone above and beyond the duties of a normal clan member, and it was only fitting to reward Shane with the very last promotion to High Council before we switched to the new Constitution.
Shane has played a vital role in the development of the new offsite, is known for his forum events, and of course his contributions to important clan-related discussion, both as councillor and as member.
Please join me in welcoming Shane to the - what is now called - Clan Council, where I am sure he will continue making Clan Quest a [s]delicious[/s] awesome place! Check out this thread to hear what Shane had to say about this himself, and to wish him luck!

RuneScape 3 Councils
Shane's promotion was not the only council change that happened last month. After the ratification of the Constitution, we immediately founded the RuneScape 3 guild, which will deal with all RuneScape 3 related business.
All the active Low Councillors were carried over as RuneScape 3 Guild Councillors. They will take over the role of the old Low and High Councils on anything purely RuneScape 3 related. The roles of the ETU and Razzers have also been embedded into this group. Tyco Elf has been elected to lead the RuneScape 3 Guild Council.
The High Councillors have been moved to the Clan Council, which will deal with anything that spans across multiple guilds.
Finally a new Honour Council for RuneScape 3 has been elected. After a record number of nominees and a very close election, Derpanieux has been chosen to lead the RuneScape 3 Honour Council. He has chosen Nex Sicarius, PTV Suli, Questcaping, and Wolffi to accompany him, and together they have formed the latest RuneScape 3 Honour Council.
The exact roles of all the different councils can be looked up in the Constitution, but over the next few weeks we will also be filling the wiki with content for each council that is easier to digest.

Discord layout changes
To facilitate the changes to the Constitution, we had to overhaul our Discord layout. The changes to the offsite had already been made a few weeks ago. The Clan Quest Discord now has two main categories that are accessible to member and guest alike: General and Voice. These categories contain channels (text and voice respectively) are created to discuss general clan related stuff, or just anything that doesn't belong in a specific Guild. There are also guild-specific categories: there contain several channels (text and voice) to discuss the domain of that Guild. Most of you will see the RuneScape 3 category, and we expect all RuneScape talk to be contained within. Each Guild will get their own category on Discord with their own channels only visible to the Guild members.
It may take some time to get used to keeping the RuneScape 3 talk limited to the Guild channels, but it is necessary with our clan moving to cover a larger base, so please keep an eye on yourself, and direct others to the right channel if required.

Beyond RuneScape 3
Yes, we are growing beyond RuneScape 3. It's still a learning process for everybody involved, but we believe it is the right thing. We're grateful for the trust you have given us by ratifying the Constitution to make this possible. We are already in the process of setting up an Old School RuneScape Guild, because we have a small player base there. But it needn't stop there, as we are already gathering interest for both a Guild Wars 2 Guild and an Overwatch Guild. Make sure to visit those threads and register your interest if you wish to play those games with clannies.

Clan Quest Patch Notes

There were too many changes that happened to this clan to give each their own section. So I want to introduce you to: Clan Quest patch notes!
  • The High Council has been renamed to the Clan Council.
  • We have unified the moderator groups for the offsite and Discord. This means that Xenon Ray has been added to the forum moderator team, and Kitty, Rerecros, Tyco Elf, and Vodka B are strengthening our Discord team. Please give them a warm welcome.
  • Offsite accounts no longer need approval to be activated. They are automatically approved when they go through the new application process.
  • We have added a voting system to the wiki for constitution changes and guild applications.
  • The RuneScape 3 in-game ranks have been changed to put all councillors at the bronze key rank. The remaining ranks will remain as they are.
  • The Razzers and ETU have been disbanded.
  • With the Razzers and ETU disbanded, the green colour has been assigned to the Editors to make the four primary colours in use.
  • Several changes and improvements have been made to the Wiki system.
  • We fixed emails for Microsoft (Hotmail/Windows Live/Outlook) addresses! Woohoo!

That's it for this week. A lot of changes, and there will probably be a few more over the next few weeks while we all find our footing in the new system. If you have any comments or questions, don't hesitate to reach out to myself or another member of the Clan Council.

An Announcement on the Magazine
by Sirapyro

While I may not typically be the one you would expect to make announcements about the Magazine, I have a very exciting one to make! As many of you might know, the Questaholic Magazine has been around for a long time. As a matter of fact, it turned six years old back in January! There was, of course, a brief period of time where publication was ceased in 2015, but it was then revived in the back half of that year and is approaching its three years revival anniversary!

I am saying all of this to emphasize the point that the Magazine has been around a long time. A lot can change over a long period of time. The website changes, other websites change, people move on. If you were to take a look back at the past issues of our magazine, you would notice that almost all of them dating before June 2017 are formatted poorly, have a lot of loose code, and are missing images. This is not the fault of the people behind the Magazine, but rather changes that have occurred over the years.

The vast majority of the images used in the Magazine were hosted privately on external websites, such as imgur, photobucket, and imageshack. A lot of former Magazine contributors have moved on from the Magazine, or the Clan entirely, and have gradually deleted some of the images used to build the Magazine. In a more extreme case that majorly hurt our Magazine, Photobucket implemented a new policy in July 2017 that stated they would no longer support third-party hosting from their site. That is, unless the people hosting those images paid almost $400 USD a year. We won't go into that controversy here, but needless to say none of our Magazine contributors, who are all volunteers, were going to pay that much just to create the Magazine. And so if you browse through past section of the Magazine, that is what is has become: a graveyard of Photobucket "Pay up" images.

Then, around the same time as the Photobucket announcement, we updated our forums to the newest version of the software required to run it. Unfortunately, while this change offered us a lot of stability and safety improvements, it came at the cost of the long used "columns" feature on the forums. For some reason this piece of formatting code broke, and while an alternative was set up, the old "Col" tag was forever broken. That meant that all the old issues of the Magazine that used columns were now broken, and their formatting was completely undone. There were a few other, minor, formatting tags that broke, but it all added up enough to make the old issues of the Magazine a mess.

But as of right now, I am proud to announce that every single issue of the Questaholic Magazine has been restored and uploaded to our Wiki, where you may view it to your hearts content!

Every image that had been hidden behind the Photobucket wall has been recovered, and every other image hosted from any site has been migrated to our own personal server, where there is no longer any risk of them being lost to time or poor business decisions. Additionally, the Content Editors team has gone through and updated the formatting of every article not only to work on our Wiki, but to most resemble how it was originally supposed to look. Unfortunately the Magazine could not be 100% recovered, though, as a few articles were built entirely around a single image that we were unable to recover. I would estimate that 98% of it has been successfully recovered, though!

If you would like to take a look at old issues of the Questaholic Magazine, or if you just want to take a trip down memory lane, you can visit our Magazine Archive by clicking this link, or if you just want to start from the beginning you can click this link to view the very first issue of the Questaholic Magazine!

MSK

You, Kappa and Draz were friends before the formation of Clan Quest. Did you meet in game, or where you real life friends also
The unity of the Clan Quest founders was pure in-game destiny. Having no real life interaction prior to Clan Quest, we surely had a purpose by meeting in game. Our friendship has been one that sparked at the thrill of Questing, and through a shared vision, we have maintained that friendship and grew it to what it is today.

When Clan Camp came out, who was the 5th founding members required to form a clan? 'Clan Quest' and ____________?
Clan quest was recognised by Jagex prior to the release of Clan Camp. We were included in the first 50 clans of Runescape to undergo setup during the contents Beta - therefore we didnt need 5 members to register as clans now require. We were an existing community of players, and being a part of that initial setup meant we secured our clans name before the wider runescape community had a chance to potentially use it.had joined around the same time I had, and this beautiful website that we’re still on today was undergoing a makeover that was getting unveiled then! (Which it has since moved on from) It was a time for celebration!

Back in the day, I heard you and Draz got married in game...what prompted that?
Our Love of course, isn’t that why people get married? =P

How long have you been playing RuneScape? What keeps you playing? Did you ever take an extended break from the game?
Runescape has always been a big part of my life since early 2003-2004. In 2006 i decided to create another main account which became Sethron 666 which i played actively between 2006 and 2012 - following that i have struggled to make time for a consistent runescape commitment, therefore i play in waves whenever i get the chance.

Now Maxed, my main is 'CQ Sethron' (Previously Sethron 666) is seeing some slow progress as i catch up on a lot of missed content, and i now have an account in old school 'Sethron CQ' which is currently sat in Wintertodt!.

What time in the past did you most enjoy being a leader in this clan? What do you remember as the most fun?

Nothing compared to Clan Quests first year. During a time where the 3 founders and alot of our first members where very active, very excited about spreading the word about our clan and headhunting specific players (draz ), it was the friendships i had in abundance back then that i treasure as my most favoured period of my runescape journey.

What do you envision the Questing Clan will be like in future?
I am very excited to see Clan Quest move away from being 'Clan Quest - the runescape 3 clan' to Clan Quest - The Multiplatform Community. Our core morals, our friendships and the energy Clan Quest has carried over the years is if nothing else, all of our legacy. A legacy that gives foundation to limitless possibilities.

My vision, is to see clan quest spread, irrespective of the Platform, the game, or country. I would like to see clan quest conquer that diversity and have a mass of Gamers communicating together, meet annually together, and for clan quest to be the reason new friendships are being forged.

How many times have you been to RuneFest?
Due to a lot of bad luck on my part - last year was the first time i have done a full RuneFest Experience! The past 3 years i have travelled to London to meet up with Greg and other clan quest members, and hopefully i intend on going to many more!

April 2018 012.jpg

In real life, what do you do now...Student? Job? Family Life? Is there anything you would like to share with us that really holds your interest?
In real life I am currently heavily invested in my career. I work in robotic process automation, looking at providing automated solutions to back office processing. In short - Building software automation, to simulate the role of a data processor, in a digital transformation journey to adjust businesses to allow them to give more specialist roles to their staff, while automation performs the rule based repetitive processes that have high turnovers.

April 2018 013.png

My strengths lie in being futuristic, I enjoy looking ahead at the development of technology and capability, and being on that journey of discovery. Outside of work I consider myself to have a fairly relaxed life. My interests change quite occasionally, so I tend to change what I'm doing every couple of months. At the moment i find myself quite fascinated with Lockpicking and .Net, both at different ends of the spectrum, but allow me to relax in different ways when i require it.

Another interest I have at the moment is collecting and reading the 1940/1950 'pocket book' publications of the Perry Mason series, written by earl stanley gardner, as he was a pioneer compared to other mystery writers at that time. I highly recommend a taster of the first installment "The Case of the Velvet Claws" to any who enjoys the genre.

KATMAK

Which joke has ever made you laugh the most?
I can't give you a specific joke - but i am a massive fan of Dad Jokes! eg. asking my dad if he got a haircut, to which he replied, "No, i got them all cut!" [Editor’s note: Is Cireon your dad?]

TORAGRAI

If you could cosplay as anyone RS related to go to RF, who/what would it be?
If it was possible - bob the cat.

April 2018 014.png

What prompted you to create the clan? Was it so you could say you were supreme leader Seth?
It was so i could have an excuse to marry draz... and my plan worked perfectly >:)

What does your gaming space look like?
It is currently packed up due to moving around - but not worthy of showing off just yet!

What sustenance do you rely on to survive DXPWEs?
In DXPWEs I aim to maximize xp p/hr to minimize my game time - but my go to is Monster Energy Original Flavour.

If you could have a piece of CQ merch to wear or use in your everyday life what would it be?
Well I do have CQ merch.. as in a T-Shirt and a Hoodie, so they are slouch wear at the moment for around the house

Kiss/Marry/Kill CQ edition. Go.
Clan Quest;

Kiss - Proto
Marry - Santa
Kill - Draz (Because we've already done the other two) xD

KATATONIC

When did you start playing R.S?
2003 technically.

Have you ever had a break from RS and if so what brought you back to game? (other than the wonderful people in Clan Quest ofc)
I frequently take breaks from runescape - personal goals tend to bring me back, as in, i will log in after a while, and find a goal to achieve that will take me a few weeks, which will usually get me active again for another while.

What is your favourite tows/city in RS and why?
My favourite town/city in runescape has always been Zanaris due to the random transformations!

April 2018 015.png

Cats/Dogs/Little Birds or aliens?
If by cat you was referring to 'Sylvester', by dog you meant 'Hector', by Little Birds you meant 'Tweetie Pie', and by Aliens you meant 'Marvin'... Then to not choose 'Sylvester' would be desthpicable!!!.

April 2018 016.png

TYCO

What is the earliest Runescape memory you have?
Logging into runescape after school to see people rioting in falador a few months after creating my Sethron 666 Account. That image has stayed with me since.

April 2018 017.png

Any chance to see you at Runefest this year?
I may not be there this year - as i have a busy year! but i will stay hopeful.

What item affects you the most? First Runescape and then in real life.
Sorry - I’m not quite sure what you mean.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
Zanaris!!

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all Jmods of Jagex. What do you say?
I would say "If you take nothing else from this brief 30 seconds, hear this!... (dramatic pause).. Clan Quest is now Recruiting ALL JMODS"

Tell me your darkest secret that would make Draziw's hair turn white.
But then it wouldn’t be a secret (and he doesn’t need any help with that)

NEX

How did you come up with your RSN?
Seth - has always been my favourite name
Ron - my gineua pig called ron died the year i made my account
666 - Memorial to the Falador Massacre

What were some of the major challenges you faced (and successfully overcame) in the early days of The Questing Clan of Runescape?
Maintaining momentum with Clan activities alongside college. Maintaining that RS/Life balance was the biggest difficulty, nothing about creating the clan was to my memory difficult because it was something we wanted to do, something we wanted to accomplish and we made it fun.

What is your vision for the future of CQ?
To gather 1000 members in london.. all wearing CQ merch, armed with real cabbages, and get Clan Quest on the british news, however best to do it. Maybe Cabbage bombarding Buckingham palace will be enough…

April 2018 018.jpg
Seth and Draz planning the attack.

SHANE

Where do you live? Country/district is ok.
Wales, United Kingdom

What is your favourite thing about your country?
The Welsh Culture - Sport/arts/etc. The passion here.

What is your least favourite thing about your country?
It shares a border with England.

What is your ideal shower temperature?
Anything around Draz's Body Temperature - makes me feel like I’m being washed with his hugs.

What is your ideal ambient outdoor temperature?
11 degrees celcius seems quite ideal.

How do you like your soup?
Still in the can.

DELENDA

Which NPC do you identify with the most?
Bailey - as i too have evaded being mind-controlled by sea slugs so far.

Which one do you want to banish from existence forever?
Bunkdo - just because I got caught 100 times... doesn't mean I need a stuffed monkey to rub it in! It was the lag honestly...

April 2018 019.png

ALASKA

What was the last thing you ate?
Lamb Rogan Josh - Because Tuesdays are my Curry Days!

Is there a quote (or two) that you really like?
"Deep in their roots, all flowers keep the light" - by Theodore Roethke, a favoured poet.
What resonates with me is that in this quote he has grasped how life starts so simple, and gets more complicated, how we chronically over complicate everything, and getting back to basics is literally the answer sometimes.

April 2018 020.jpg

If you time-travelled and met yourself at age 10 what advice would you give him?
In RS, stock up on climbing boots.

How's Wales treating ya?
Very well thank you!

I still have that photo of you and Draz from 2015 RuneFest (you know the one) what should I do with it?
Keep it in your pocket, that's a one of a kind

Spend the day at an antique auction, and outbid everyone #haterzgunnahate

You know when you get a cup of hot chocolate and it's so hot it scalds your tongue and you end up never tasting it? You think it's actually hot chocolate?
Yes.

How far can you get your foot above your head while standing?
I would need to be able to put my foot above my head while standing in order to measure.

How many push-ups can you do after a ten kilometer jog in under 30 minutes?
Considering it would take me roughly 30 minutes to run 4 kilometres (im trying to make an educated guess), I would say 8.

You know dogs don't actually understand your words, right?
But if your right whats left?

What was your highest cannonball dive? ... OK, fine, in a swimming pool...
Probably like... 1m.

In Real Life; my favourite place i have been would be Kosovo. my favourite place i aspire to visit would be egypt.

Which quest you believe to be the best?
While Guthix Sleeps was the Quest that gave me the quest cape first time, and i thoroughly enjoyed it, although the penguin quests are a close second.

April 2018 023.png

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
I use to play guitar, i have a Gibson SG, but i would love one day to learn the violin.

Tell us the story behind your name!
Well when i was born my parents decided that the name they chose would be best suited for their first born son.

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
1) English, and very basic welsh and albanian - I’m slowly learning albanian at the moment.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
My phone

Are you still married to Draz?
Yes.

April 2018 024.jpg

MsK won and asked you about the 5th member before me.
Oops!!

Being stood in lumbridge basement next to the bank chest being introduced to Kappa by Draz.

Me (duh)

Best film ever?
oh such a difficult question! Personally, my favourite film is brandon lee's 'The Crow'.

April 2018 025.jpg

Secondly I am a fan of Ben Elton, whom i have read 2 books anytime recently; Blind faith and Inconceivable, both I strongly recommend.

April 2018 026.jpg

I can’t explain how honoured I am after this inedit interview with one of the 3 cofunders. Thank you, Seth, and be wary, for there will be a round 2!

Katatonic

How long have you been playing RS?
I started playing somewhere in December of 2007, so I recently got my 10 year veteran cape. Somewhere in 2011 I stopped playing and then around the launch of NXT I started playing again.

I saw you around the other day wearing a Santa is it your favourite hat?
I don’t have a santa hat, who’s this imposter!

If you have a favourite town/city in RS what is it and why?
I can’t really say I have any. I’ve never been that absorbed in the game to get such ideas about the cities in the game.

Cats, Dog or Elephants?
War elephants of course

April 2018 029.jpg

What is your overall aim in RS?
Get all skills to 99(or 120 where applicable) and complete all quests

Tora

Kiss/Marry/Kill CQ edition. Go.
I’m just casually gonna switch around the order. I’d marry Wolffi so he can carry my ass into diamond in Overwatch competitive. Then I kill Leo so I can take his spot as Head of Hoodian Council and Kiss xenon so he is distracted and can’t use his meme ability to become HoHooC before me
[Choto’s note: Legit the best Kiss Marry Kill I’ve ever seen]

What does your gaming space look like?
Like a mess, practicality over good looks

What does the TF mean in your name?
The full name I use, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot, comes from the NATO phonetic alphabet for the letters W, T and F and I think everyone knows the acronym WTF. Because of RuneScape’s 12 letter cap I wasn’t able to use the full name so I used TF instead of TangoFoxtrot or any other variation that might occur in the future. Although I do have the tendency to make typos resulting in the foxtrot bastardizing into foxtortle, which I now use as RS name and in my discord and steam username.

Where would you say you spend most of your time in game?
It used to be the GE in Varrock but since I unlocked prif that’s where I spend most of my time in game these days.

April 2018 030.png

If you could have a piece of CQ merch for everyday life, what would it be?
Probably a hoodie to add to my collection of hoodies

Nex

1. What is your favourite game on PC, and on PS4?
My first thought was the InFamous series but the two main games were for PS3. On PS4 my favourite game is The Witcher 3 and Horizon Zero Dawn being #2 and the two Middle Earth games being #3. As for PC games, I’d go for Shadow Warrior 1 and 2.

2. What are your long term goals for RS?
My long term goal is to git gud at bossing and just PVM in general.

3. How many languages do you speak, and which ones would you like to learn, if any?
I can speak 2 languages fluently, Dutch and English, and I can speak some French. I would like to improve my French as well as Russian and Korean since I already know how to read them.

Tyco

What is the earliest Runescape memory you have?
That would be my cousin, who got me into playing RS, who somehow (this was 10 years ago so my memory ain’t that great) managed to get me “married” to some random in-game.

Any chance to see you at Runefest this year?
Planning on it if I can save enough money, although saving is not one of my strong suits.

What item affects you the most? First Runescape and then in real life.
In RS that would probably be my SGS, something I had since I started playing again in 2016 and pretty much used ever since and in almost every combat encounter. As for real life I’d say my phone(which I could better classify as mp3 player with some ebooks and messaging apps) which basically let’s me connect and disconnect from society.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
The area between seers’ village and rellekka, I find it to be one of the simplest yet beautiful regions in the game.

April 2018 031.png

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all Jmods of Jagex. What do you say?
Free stuff pl0x, dancing for money

Tell me your darkest secret that would make the Pmods run away in fear.
I botted once, to be precise my cousin did that on my account. It was during a time he was into writing scripts and such for it and convinced me to do it once, so overnight my character was mining iron (I think) and it has haunted me ever since.

April 2018 032.jpg

Shane

Where do you live? Country/district is ok.
Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. Home of the greatest theme park in europe, the Efteling!

What is your favourite thing about your country?
The people

What is your least favourite thing about your country?
The people

What is your ideal shower temperature?
Somewhere from 20C to 40C, depending on the weather.

What is your ideal ambient outdoor temperature?
15-20C and clear weather.

How do you like your soup?
Hot.

Delenda

Which NPC do you identify with the most?
I can’t really think of any, too noob to remember anyone.

Which one do you want to banish from existence forever?
Same as the above.

Cireon

Why Whiskey (Irish) and not Whisky (Scotch)?
Because it comes from the NATO phonetic alphabet and not the drink, as for the drink I would have gone for whisky(also because it’s whisky in dutch)

What's your favourite whiskey?
Either Glenfarclas or Balvenie

Do you drink whiskey at all?
Sometimes, I don’t drink alcohol that often and when I do it’s usually beer.

How about Irish coffee?
I don’t drink coffee ;p
[Choto’s note: HERESYYYYYYYYYYYYYY]

Alaska

Which person (or people) do you look up to in life?
Elon Musk is definitely one of them, what he has done for technology, how he innovated in various technologies and arguably all for a single greater cause of bettering the world. Like his work involving Tesla and SolarCity and him trying to get the world to use more renewable energy is something that really inspires me to aim big to change the world.

April 2018 033.jpg

Do you have a favourite movie?
Ooh, that's a tough one, but if I had to mention one it would be The Sting

Favourite TV show?
This one is fairly simple in comparison, One Piece

Favourite book?
Dear Leader by Jang Jin-Sung. It’s about the author’s escape from North Korea. Last summer when I visited South Korea we went to a refugee center thingy( I can’t remember what it was called) where they help North Korean refugees integrate into society. Reading the book after that really had an impact and definitely one of the better books I’ve read.

What does your typical outfit look like on a regular day?
Simple guy with simple clothes, usually a T-shirt and some jeans and sometimes a hoodie on top depending on the weather

If you're feeling down, what do you usually do to feel better?
Listening to music on max volume and singing along usually helps

What place in the world would you love to visit, given the chance?
I have lots of places I want to visit, but I’m going with one that's very unlikely to actually happen, which is Antarctica.

Do you have a favourite animal?
Dogs, they are also my least favourite animal, kind of a love/hate relationship.

If you received a life-sized, rocket-powered, metallic and completely functional replica of Reinhardt's glorious hammer, what would be the first thing you smashed with it and why?
I think you already know the answer, SMASH!

I briefly mentioned Paw.fia before we saw you apply for, and join Clan Quest, how does it feel to be embraced by the fuzzies and end up interrogated so quickly after joining?
Send help please.

Everyone cooks at some point in their lives, and sometimes the cookware fights back. What is the most recent dish you've thoroughly burned?
That would be some good old pasta, I forgot the water. Hard to boil without it.

If you could cosplay as any character/creature from any fandom, comic, movie or game, with a professionally made outfit, who would it be and why?
Something that includes a life-sized, rocket-powered, metallic and completely functional replica of Reinhardt's glorious hammer.

When did you start playing?
According to Hans I started playing Thursday 20 December 2007.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
That would be Firemaking, I just wanted a cape for the great stats.

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
Leave. No but the first thing you should do, pretty much any country imo, is find some locals, usually students do the job quite well, that can show you around etc. Something I found in my travels really works well to see what a country/city has to offer

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
In RS that would probably be Karamja, I don’t know why but somehow I think it’s a great place. Also has been a place that had me scared to death when it almost killed me in my early RS days when poison was actually deadly, good times. IRL a few that immediately came to mind were Jeju (South Korea) and Berlin(Germany).

Tutorial Island, no doubt.

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
I can play guitar hero(the new one that came with guitar hero live)

Tell us the story behind your name!
The WTF itself isn’t that interesting, it’s just the phonetic equivalent of “What the fuck” I heard in a game once and it just kinda stuck. However I do have a more interesting name a friend in high school once gave me: “Julian Ricardo Delmos da Silva Ferreira Garcia” I can’t remember why he thought of it but I thought it was quite an interesting name.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
A life-sized, rocket-powered, metallic and completely functional replica of Reinhardt's glorious hammer.

How does it feel to be part of the first Hoodian Council?
Like my first step towards greatness!

How’s the smuggling coming? Any chance of seeing you in RuneFest?
Haven’t found a bag/case big enough for me to fit in, so I probably have to get in the normal way and that is probably gonna be very doable

April 2018 036.jpg

Why do you follow the Hood?
Because it’s the only true way of life.

Best thing of Clan Quest?
That it’s a nice, active and welcoming group of people, something that my previous clan lacked and something that is a nice addition to my time in Runescape and outside the game as well.

Best film ever?
The best, not favourite, movie in my opinion would be Pulp Fiction.

Best book ever?
The best book I’ve read would be The Pianist.

What a month, ladies and gents! A lot of things happened, including the election of new Heads of Council. I won’t make a large introduction, so we’ll just skip to the point. I’ll just say that those clannies are the first in Clan Quest life to hold these positions. This is history, peeps!

Head of the RuneScape 3 Guild Council

Ladies and gentlemen, noobs and hoodians, dear members of Clan Quest. A few words from the newly elected Head of the Guild Council.

Whether you have met me personally at Runefest or only heard rumors of me, you all have your own unique personal view of me. Whether that view is, I’m thankful for your opinion and would like to make an addition to it today. How would I describe myself? What is my goal, what do I want to do and most importantly, how will this affect the Guild Council of Runescape 3?

If I were to look at myself, I would see a very complex person. Too complex to describe in fact, unless you are free the next 4 days. But I do have a goal. To become a walking guide that loves being creative and adventurous, a person who has a close relationship with the members of Clan Quest. And that is something I want to strengthen and become, a person who guides people in their journey through life. Not as a teacher who tells what’s right, not as a wikipedia who describes “the only way”, but as someone who can say “Would you mind if show you where the crossroad is and then tag along on the path you choose to take?”

Want to know a secret? I’m practicing. And I’m becoming better at it. Some might have noticed my addiction to customizing action bars to people. Or the guides I have been writing. And maybe even that I’m giving a lot of answers and input in clan chat. So I can become a better person and for you to have a better experience in your life. So whether you are in Clan Quest for becoming the best adventurer Jagex ever heard of, the strongest of combatants, the most efficient of skillers, the most memorable meme or simply because we are the noobiest family on the planet, we are here for you. The Guild Council is here for you. And I am here for you.

My name is Tyco elf, Head of the Guild Council of Runescape 3. If you ever feel lost, call me and I will show you where the crossroad is.

Head of the RuneScape 3 Honour Council

Hoods,

This is your new Head of Honour Council (will refer to this as (Ho)HC for the remainder of the speech), Derp, signing in! Now, I was incredibly honoured (heh) and, don't tell anyone this, slightly surprised when I got the news that I won the HoHC elections. The competition was fierce, but in the end, you, the people of Clan Quest, saw it fit for me to lead the HC in these changing times. Therefore, first of all, I'd like to thank all of you for giving me this opportunity: I will do my best to make sure you all don't regret putting your trust in me.

Now, I like to practice what I preach (which was mainly transparency and a fresh perspective), so Iet me take all of you through the same process I underwent while choosing the remainder of Honour Councillors. Basically immediately after I got the news, I asked Wolffi to be part of my HC. He has always been one of my closest friends in Clan Quest, and I knew that I could trust him 100% with a HC position - coincidentally, those were also part of the reason why I cast my vote on him. Wolffi, like myself (just now) and the majority of others I asked to serve on my HC, made the incredibly creative pun that he would be honoured to take the position.

Afterwards, I must say I took more time to decide. I hadn't even made up my mind about how many Councillors in total I wanted the HC to be. Instead of focussing on the number, though, I decided to figure out what people I really wanted to be on the Council and go from there. There were quite some names floating through my head at this point - who'd be a good addition to my Council? Looking at the election results, I reckon there was one rather obvious addition, namely Questcaping. Being runner-up, she definitely had the trust of Clan Quest. I have full trust in her capabilities as well, so it was an easy decision. Luckily, she accepted.

At this point, you might've realised that my HC consists only of HoHC nominees. While that is true, I can't say this popped up in my head during the formation, and in fact I only realised this after our Council was formed. However, there is a certain someone on the HC who was nominated, but didn't actually run in the election - PTV Suli. Now, I've known Suli since the time that he joined Clan Quest, and he has always come across as a very enthusiastic, kind soul, always willing to help those who need it. Now, of course this holds for most, if not all, members of Clan Quest, but you can just feel the eagerness emanating from him. Not wanting to hold the fact that he had a busy weekend over his head, I decided to ask him if he wanted to be on my Council, too. He, too, said to be immensely honoured, and our Council just gained our fourth member.

At this point, I (well, I and the three Honour Councillors that already signed up for the job) made the call to cap our Council at 5 members. There were several reasons to do this - most of all, we felt like we already had quite a variety in Councillors, and having more than 5 Councillors would be more detrimental to the decision making process than it would actually add to the Council, since having more Councillors would increase the risk of inactivity. Of course, there were still various names floating around in my head, but, again together with the other three members of the Council, I decided that Nex Sicarium would be a perfect choice for the last spot. We were all impressed by his efforts, answers and speech during the election process, and felt like there would be no better person to fill up the last available spot on the Council. He accepted as well, and our Council was complete!

What you might have noticed as well, is that the new Honour Council is mostly made up of people who haven't actually held a position of power in Clan Quest before. While this wasn't necessarily something that made me choose one person over another, I must say I like this about our new Council. We're all relatively fresh faces, and we definitely all have new perspectives and opinions to bring to the table. Every single one of us is eager to serve on the Honour Council and do their absolute finest.

Now, you might be wondering what you can expect from your new Honour Council. First of all, exactly like what I preached, there'll be a lot more transparency than in previous years. Obviously, there is always a limit to how much we can share, but we will let you know everything of which we feel you have a right to know. You have put your trust in us to do the right thing, and we wouldn't be doing the right thing if we weren't able to own up to what we do. Most important of all, though, we promise to always act in the best interest of Clan Quest. You can hold me, personally, accountable for this.

Anyway, I reckon I've rambled on for long enough now. Again, thank you so much for choosing me as your new HoHC, and I will do my best to show you that trust wasn't misplaced!

Unhoods, Derp

I nominate Delenda Est for the RAWR-award. Ever since the clue update, she has been lending valuable items to clannies for Master-clues worth millions, saving these treasure hunters from poverty that the Grand Exchange eats for breakfast.

This nomination was seconded by Questcaping.

Five judges were involved in the selection of a winner. And they chose....

Congratulations!

Due to the change in clan chat systems, the Clan's roster fell to only 137 members - still an impressive feat for the time.

The Last Elegy
A Clan Quest story
By Tyco Elf

February 2018 016.png

Chapter 6

Tyco and the man left the hospital. The man stroked his chin as they walked down the hallway.
- She could at least have taken a look before sending us away.
- Natural healing is the best healing Shane. Quality takes time.

Shane, the chief of intelligence in Clan Quest, touched the spot where the foot had kicked him. His hand reflexively jumped back as he found where the impact had landed.
- More like being the queen of reje...
The elf put a finger on his lip and looked back towards the hospital. He then looked back at the man.
- The wall have ears.
Shane shrugged and decided to let it go. He continued to stroke his chin and thought of the situation. 8 high councilors with serious wounds from battle and, if that wasn’t enough, having an unhealthy amount of cabbage-poisoned clan members had been enough to give Irene the work of a lifetime. Luckily, the other members didn’t get more than a small dizziness when hit by the badly cooked cabbages by a certain cook.
Shane noticed the expression of the elf and realized he had thought of the exact same thing.
- Werecool has already left the Citadel. Something about one small favor he had to do.
Tyco looked at Shane with a raised eyebrow.
- Right after the party? What a coincidence.
Both returned to their deep thoughts. From what Seth had told them, Cireon was now in the hands of a warmongering psychopath. And a really dangerous one. Shane then came to think of something.
- Why were they there in the first place?
Tyco took a deep breath. What Seth had told them had been anything but good news.
- They escorted Draziw to the yearly meeting with the overlords. Elfborne had summoned him along with many others to discuss matters that will affect clans for years to come.
- But we know he arrived safely. So if they didn’t come into trouble on their way there…
- ...they did on their way back. It was a trap. Forced teleportation. It took them…
- ...to his lair, where he attacked them. But he lost and escaped with Cireon to……..where?
- Where indeed. And why them, why us? He was outnumbered.

They returned to their deep thoughts. Why indeed. Why them when the risk had been so high? And even in the end he took the trouble of taking Cireon with him.
- Wait a minute…..Cireon.
- Hmm whu?

Shane broke his line of thought and looked at the elf. A small hope could be seen in his eyes.
- Can’t we like…..track him? Contact him in some way and have him tell us where he is?
- I tried. The lodestone system can’t pick him up. He’s not answering the calls from our communication system. I’m suspecting he’s unconscious or in a very secure place.

Shane sighed. He didn’t want the elf to lose hope, but he had to know. The elf didn’t give up.
- Tried the rune golem’s ability to track teleport frequencies? Figure out the location from the runes he used? Any reports from Wizard’s Tower or our allies? Any news at all?
- He used a scroll, a pre-made teleport that ceased to exist and can’t be analysed. No common pattern, no allies have called, no news at all.

Tyco grew impatient. He wanted to shout and tell Shane to get good at his job but he knew it wouldn’t solve anything. Shane had his job for a reason after all. He took a deep breath and tried to sound calm.
- Can you tell me there is any possibility to get a hint of where he is?
Shane looked at him. He wanted to tell the elf there was a way, but he couldn’t. He had nothing. For the first time in years, he felt helpless. He had spent the entire day running around and squeezing all his sources for any information that could have given something as small as a hair from an eyebrow. He had been everywhere between Lunar Island and Menaphos. He hadn’t had the time to tell Tyco that as Earth woke up just after arriving at the hospital.
Wait, all his sources?
- Shane?
Shane returned to reality. He realized he hadn’t answered.
- There……..may be a way.
Shane covered his mouth. He already regretted saying those words, but it was too late. The elf was all over him like a dog on a piece of meat.
- Where? When? HOW?
- There…..is one place that I haven’t checked. But…..the risk is quite high.
- Come on Shane! What would possibly be worse than the leader of Clan Quest being kidnapped by a warmongering psychopath?

Shane swallowed. He knew he was going to regret this. At the same time, it wasn’t as he had much of a choice. It was either that or wishing that something would come up, the latter being a child’s wish.
He turned around and started to lead the elf. He realized once again he hadn’t answered. The elf deserved to know the risk.
- Worse than a kidnapping? The death of a man and an elf.

Drips of water fell down on the stairs of stone leading down into the core of the floating island. The torch flickered as the dripping fell on it, but recovered quickly with the cloth of oil that kept the flame alive. One step at the time, Shane descended into the darkness of what was the basement of the keep, watchful for any traces of ice. One slip could mean a very uncomfortable fall to the bottom. Behind him he could hear the breath of the elf.
- Freezing?
- I was raised in a cold place.

The question was made to break the silence between them. And out of curiosity. Shane had heard the tales of the elf from the Nordic Lands. He smiled as he realized he couldn’t have gotten a better companion for this, he was rarely comfortable alone in this kind of matters. His smile disappeared as he reached the bottom. They wouldn’t be too far away now. The elf caught up and saw a dark corridor over Shane’s shoulder.
- Soooo... what’s down here that could help us?
- Oh, you will see soon.

They continued their journey, only seeing from what the light of the torch could spare. The ice that partly covered the walls made the corridor seem alive. As the flame danced, the reflected light did too. But not for long. They arrived to a opening where the corridor ended in a large open area. As they continued, Tyco noticed they were passing long tables. The roof had chandeliers and the walls had decorations. It reminded him of…
- ….it’s like the gathering hall.
Shane stopped for a second and looked around. Then he understood what the elf meant.
- Ah, yes. This was our gathering hall a very long time ago. But as our clan grew, so did our citadel and we moved it above ground. It’s still used though…...sometimes.
The elf examined whatever the light from the touch revealed. A big plate on the floor, shield on the wall that had the mark of some sort of beast. One of the tables had an unusual long scratch-mark over it. Tyco started to realize that Shane might had been serious about this not being a safe option, so much that he didn’t notice the man stop until the elf walked into him.
- We are here.
Tyco looked over his shoulder and saw a thick wooden door at the end of the hall. He could sense the faint smell of burning wood and realized that he hadn’t seen any ice since they had entered the room. Shane searched inside his jacket.
- We have a couple of rules. Repeat after me.
He put out his hand and Tyco put out his own, accepting what was given to him. He examined it. It looked like some sort of necklace, a string with a white odd object at the end of it. It was light, possibly hollow but seemed to carry great importance.
- Rule one. Wear this at all times.
Tyco looked back at Shane. His eyes were serious. Apparently this wasn’t for fashionscape. He nodded and put the string around his neck. Hopefully this wouldn’t get harder.
- Wear this at all times. Got it.
- Rule two. After you enter, give a compliment about one of the trophies.
- Trophies?
- Yes, trophies. Whatever looks impressive, any of them.

- Okay, compliment a trophy on entry.
That couldn’t be too hard. He had charmed plenty of people in his lifetime.
- Rule three. Never ever show any sign of emotion.

He took the last thought back. This would be a hard one.

- Never….ever….show any emotion. I will keep that in mind.
Shane kept a watchful eye as the elf repeated the last rule. He noticed a drop of water fall from the elf’s hand. He sighed and took out his fist. The elf recognized the fremennik tradition and hit Shane’s fist from above with his own, then once again from beneath.
- For Cireon?
- For Cireon.
Tyco turned towards the door, imagined himself staring into the mouth of a dagannoth and opened the door without hesitation.

Building PvM Skills: Combat Styles

This is basically a pilot article to gauge interest; feedback and constructive criticism will be welcomed.

Choosing between the three combat styles while gearing for a boss encounter you’re unfamiliar with can be difficult, especially if there are no clear cut weaknesses or advantages towards any one style for that boss. It certainly doesn’t help currently the combat styles are fairly homogenous with regard to abilities. Gearing up in a combat style which puts you at even a slight disadvantage can be catastrophic at end-game bosses and is generally irritating to deal with at lower level bosses. However, each combat style is separated from the others by more in depth concepts, which this article primarily aims to cover.

THE COMBAT TRIANGLE
The most fundamental distinction between styles, and often the ultimate decider of your choice of style, is the combat triangle. Each of the three combat styles is particularly effective towards one combat style, weak to another and neutral to itself. The triangle is arranged in a rock-paper-scissors fashion, with Melee being stronger than Ranged; Ranged being stronger than Magic and Magic being stronger than Melee. Intuitively, this means that the weaknesses of each style run backwards to the above.

The combat triangle has a large impact on your hit chance and thus the overall damage you deal. If the combat style you are attacking with is strong to the defensive style of your opponent, you will have a higher hit chance[sup][1][/sup]. Conversely, if your attacking style is weak to your opponent’s defending style, you will have a lower hit chance and if your attacking style matches your opponent’s defending style then your hit chance will be neither increased nor decreased. It is important to remember that the combat triangle has NO EFFECT your weapon/ability damage; only hit chance.

Note that this only applies to opponents with marked weaknesses, which can be seen on their expanded HP bar. For instance, imps are weak to water spells, a form of magic, and thus their defending style can be considered to be melee. Generally, the defending style of a monster is the same as their attacking style, although monsters which attack with more than one combat style may be regarded as any of the combat styles they use or another entirely. Additionally, many monsters have defending styles unrelated to their attacking style. For instance, hellhounds attack using exclusively melee but they are weak to slashing attacks (melee), which would imply they are ranged-based monsters. Also worth nothing is that most boss monsters have no weakness and thus your attacking combat style is irrelevant to your hit chance.

A monster’s hit chance on your player works in a similar manner. In the loadout screen, you can see your defensive bonuses for each style based on your armour. A positive value for a combat style means your armour is strong against that style and you are less likely to be hit from that style. Likewise, a negative value means your armour is weak to that style and you are more likely to be hit from that style. As stated above, these values do not result in a damage soaking effect; they only indicate an opponent will have an increased or lowered hit chance.

Finally, the combat triangle has a further bearing on your accuracy based on the relation between your armour and your weapon. If the style of a piece of your armour is weak to the style of your weapon, you will suffer a large accuracy penalty (1.5x the armour value of that armour piece subtracted from your accuracy). If the style of a piece of your armour is strong to the style of your weapon, you will suffer a smaller accuracy penalty (0.8x the armour value of that armour piece is subtracted from your accuracy). If the style of your armour matches the style of your weapon, you will suffer no accuracy penalty. Because of this, it is always recommended to wear armour that matches the style of your weapon to avoid the stated accuracy penalties.

Due to the numerous effects of the combat triangle, it has a strong bearing on your choice of combat style against a given boss. At low-level bosses, such as KBD or GWD1, with high level gear the combat triangle can be ignored and your combat style will be whichever one you can output the most damage in, usually melee. If using lower level gear at these places, however, the combat triangle will have a greater effect and you may be best choosing the combat style strong to the attacking style(s) of the boss. At mid- to high-level bosses, the effects of the combat triangle become more difficult to ignore, even with high level gear. Up to around GWD2, with experience you can still have a strong damage output and sustainability while ignoring the combat triangle, but after this the additional damage you take becomes dangerous and usually you should follow the combat triangle to select your triangle. For instance, at Vorago the most common style is magic because the only combat styles used by Vorago are melee and magic, giving magic armour the greatest overall resistance; at Araxxor use of an araxyte pheromone or an instance to force Araxxor to spawn in the combat style weak to you is considered mandatory, especially at high enrages, as the damage from autoattacks is very significant. With experience, combat styles can be used contrary to the combat triangle, such as having someone using melee for increased DPS in a Vorago trio, but this should not be attempted without knowledge of how to minimise the damage you take.

FURTHER DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN STYLES
Beyond the combat triangle, each combat style has various advantages and disadvantages which may make it more desirable to use at particular places.

MELEE

Advantages

Very high damage in short periods of time due to Berserk

Ability to debuff (Quake, Statius’ Warhammer)

Stronger basics than other styles (two 188% + 1 188% bleed without switching; Cleave/Decimate have very short cooldowns)

Powerful AoEs (Quake, Hurricane, Cleave; Meteor Strike in very specific niches)

Gains most benefit out of switching between two-handed and dual-wield weapons

Strength cape perk and Lunging both benefit Dismember without any detriments

Zaros Godsword special acts as an additional damage boost between Berserks

High mobility with Barge and Bladed Dive

Slaughter is extremely powerful; if walked it is the highest DPT threshold (disregarding the time it takes to bleed out)

Works well for both single targets and multiple targets (assuming switching two-handed and dual-wielding) Can use scrimshaw of vampirism

Can use Disruption Shield on Lunar Spellbook

Can use Keris (Kalphite King, Kalphite Queen)

Can use Gloves of Passage which makes Havoc essentially a second Fury

Disadvantages

Required to remain within one square (or two for halberds) of your target; leaves you susceptible to melee attacks

Use of Berserk can be very hazardous due to the double damage you take

Flurry is useless[sup][2][/sup]

Less useful for sustained damage as Berserk is shorter than Death’s Swiftness/Sunshine

AoEs only work around the player; compare with Detonate, Bombardment etc.

Binds or a mobile enemy can render melee useless

Cannot be used at Legiones

Cannot use Planted Feet

Cannot be used at Kree’ara

Overall, melee specialises in burst damage but lacks defensive capabilities, making it dangerous to use in places you are unfamiliar with or where you will take high hits. This makes melee the choice for camping most low-level bosses as the damage taken there is very little and there is no need for a consistently high damage output. At high-level bosses, especially group bosses, the need to remain in melee distance and the high damage taken makes melee unsuitable in most cases, although many group bosses do have dedicated melee roles which speed up kills significantly.

MAGIC

Advantages

Ability to debuff (Vulnerability, Enfeeble, Stagger, Guthix Staff)

Can use Planted Feet

Large attack range (8 squares regardless of weapon)

Can use Ancient Magicks for various benefits (Blood spells, Ice spells, Barrage spells, Shield Dome, Intercept, Aurora Spells)

Currently only combat style capable of 4 ticking[sup][3][/sup]

Detonate can bypass reflect mechanics (e.g. Araxxor/Araxxi’s web shield) or be used to prepare for DPS tests (e.g. Telos’ tendrils spec)

Can use Corruption Blast

Metamorphosis is occasionally useful for when Sunshine is on cooldown or mobility is required

Sonic Wave is gives a very useful accuracy buff

Reasonable AoE potential (Chain, Corruption Blast, Dragon Breath, Detonate, Tsunami)

Maintains consistent high damage as Sunshine can be active up to 60% of the time

Disadvantages

Cannot use Disruption Shield[sup][4][/sup]

Less burst damage than melee

Must stay in a confined area to benefit from Sunshine

Cannot be used at Legiones

50% damage reduction at Corporeal Beast

Lunging loses its effectiveness if bleeds can be walked (mainly solo PvM)

Overall, magic specialises in a sustained damage output at harder bosses but will usually be lacking in speed at lower-level bosses. Around and below GWD1 level, magic is much less effective than melee because the encounters do not last long enough for a consistent damage output to matter. Without 4 ticking, melee is still more effective than magic at GWD2 and other solo bosses around that level. Araxxor is something of a special case for magic as kills can be very fast, especially with use of 4 ticking - potentially outcompeting melee - but at the cost of much more damage taken because the melee form of Araxxor deals a random typeless bleed. At high-end bosses, magic dominates because of its ability to debuff and maintain high damage over longer encounters.

RANGED

Advantages

Needle Strike offers a powerful damage boost

Can use Planted Feet

Maintains consistent high damage as Death’s Swiftness can be active up to 60% of the time

The various effects of bakriminel bolts are useful in many places

Largest attack range (up to 9 squares)

Can use Disruption Shield

Can use Corruption Shot Can use Nightmare Gauntlets for significantly increased hit chance with Snipe

Snipe can bypass reflect mechanics

Mutated Dazing Shot and Salt the Wound are big DPS boosts

Potential for stun combos for much higher damage at stunnable bosses (Telos, Kalphite King)

Shadow Tendrils is one of the most powerful thresholds

Can use mechanised chinchompas for very high AoE damage (useful at Rise of the Six, Angel of Death) or the Decimation bow special attack

Can use dragonbane ammunition (KBD, QBD)

Disadvantages

Cannot apply debuffs

Inconsistent attack range; dual wielding or using shorter range weapons may be detrimental at certain bosses

50% damage reduction at Corporeal Beast

Less burst damage than melee

Rather low AoE potential from abilities alone (Ricochet and Bombardment are quite weak; Incendiary Shot has a small AoE)

Snipe and Rapid Fire take one tick longer than their melee and magic counterparts[sup][5][/sup]

Must stay in a confined area to benefit from Death’s Swiftness

Lunging loses its effectiveness if bleeds can be walked (mainly solo PvM)

Ranged does not have a well defined niche as at all bosses it has various advantages and disadvantages. This mainly comes from its inability to debuff and low burst damage but its long attack range and strength of Death’s Swiftness rotations compared to magic without 4 ticking. Ranged will find the most use at group bosses, especially Raids, and at Nex because of the way her protection prayers function. Bakriminel bolts may give validity to ranged at other places as well; ruby allows for potential 12k hits early into certain boss encounters (Nex, Telos, most group bosses); the adrenaline buff from hydrix is incredible and can change rotations significantly, such as use of every threshold available during Death’s Swiftness if the bolts activate often enough; onyx bolts provide a useful healing buff during Onslaught; dragonstone bolts are a solid increase in damage output; diamond bolts may be useful at places where you have a low hit chance or where you need to guarantee a hit (e.g. Debilitate at phase 5 Vorago). 4 ticking usually makes magic the superior option at most of these scenarios, and in general ranged is considered the least useful style, but it is fairly versatile and functions well at many places.

MAKING THE CHOICE
Which combat style you choose comes down to your experience and requirements alongside the mechanics of the boss you are facing. As such, it is rather difficult to summarise down the combat styles into one or even a few maxims which can always be followed. However, in general:
• If you’re trying to learn a low-level boss and are unconfident, don’t use melee
• If you’re experienced at a low-level boss or have close to best in slot gear, melee will probably be the best choice
• Most mid-tier bosses are best learnt using magic or ranged even if you have high level melee gear
• With more experience, melee becomes relatively easy to use at mid-tier bosses (GWD2 et al.) but if you feel more comfortable using the other styles, those work well as well
• For the high-end bosses, research ahead as to the potential benefits and detriments to using each combat style. It is best to use magic or ranged until you get more experience; it may be that you never feel the need to use melee at these harder bosses
For entering PvM, both at the low and high end, it is generally most worth investing in solid magic or ranged gear. Once you become more experienced, the best way to move forward is to make sure you are adept in and adequately geared for all three combat styles and begin investing further into the style you think you will get the most use out of.
FOOTNOTES
[1] The higher hit chance is a result of your opponent’s affinity rather than an increase to your base accuracy. I intend on discussing accuracy, affinity and hit chance in depth in another article.
[2] I’m not kidding. Once on the bus I mentally noted about 3 pages of information as to why Flurry is useless. It is incredibly weak relative to every other melee threshold except Stomp because Stomp isn’t affected by the Flanking perk. Never use it (except maybe at airuts). I might write a sub-article about Flurry some time.
[3] 4 ticking (or 4 tick autoattacking/4taa and its more advanced form, continuous 4 tick autoattacking/c4taa) is a magic exclusive mechanic (it’s technically a bug) which manipulates weapon speeds to allow an autoattack and an ability to be cast every 4 ticks. This results in a big increase in DPS for magic, making it unparalleled almost everywhere. I will not be doing an article on 4 ticking because it’s supposed to be getting removed pretty soon and it’s not necessary in most places (and certainly not while learning).
[4] Well you can but you’ll be on the Lunar Spellbook and will only be able to use Polypore Strike.
[5] This isn’t really a disadvantage because they maintain similar DPT, but it does slow down adrenaline gain and inhibit movement}}

One of the consequences of the major changes last month is the closing of some of the subgroups within Clan Quest’s RuneScape Guild. The Razzers, Guardians, and Event Thugs United have all been officially retired as user groups. Many of our clan’s members weren’t around to remember these groups when they were originally founded. Who founded them, and why has their purpose declined? Take a stroll with me down memory lane as I reminisce about one of these groups, the Event Thugs United.

Do you live that Thug Life? Some of Clan Quest’s most active members certainly did. Just check out the original logo for the Event Thug’s.

April 2018 002.jpg

For the people not familiar with the names Hemsky, Rerecros, and Sinistral… They are the founders of the Questing Clan of RuneScape Event Thugs. It’s difficult, because as our community has grown we have more and more awesome people. Equating the popularity of these three to our present community is almost impossible, there are just too many great people who are popular. Suffice to say, these three players were very popular. However, under the rules of the clan, in order to become officers you had to have the Quest Point cape, which they did not have. This meant that while they were super loved by the clan and its members, their ability to gain an official rank was unallowed.

While this setback might deter the most adamant contributors to a community, it didn’t affect these three. When the clan hosted its first Quest Fest on June 6th, 2010, I specifically asked these three guys to help me with the advertising and gathering of individuals (a notably cruel request, given they couldn’t participate themselves). They were incredibly successful, and the event had many attendees, allowing us to break the standing record for synced emotes. As a joke, they began calling themselves “Event Thugs”. They did this because they liked hosting events, and they had bullied people to attend, just like a thug might do.

In August of 2010 they began to aggressively host events. Here are a few examples for you. They were able to break the offsite record by getting the most people onto the offsite at one time than ever before, yay!. The Legends Quest After Party had an attendance of 110 participants! Can you even imagine having 110 people you know together in the clan chat, let alone all doing a conga line? Rerecros founded the “Church of Brassica Prime” which began Clan Quest’s oldest meme, and continued worship of cabbage. The Event Thugs specifically petitioned for an alliance with the Knights of the Abyss and began hosting events with that ally, as well as others. These events would continue weekly for almost 2 years. The ETU would host a multitude of events, most with an average attendance well above 40, and continue with their continuous event hosting activity, hosting events, big and small on a twice weekly basis for many months. Their greatest accomplishments “THE Birthday party” on November 9th, 2011 had over 165 attendees, and “The Event to end all events (for the year)” had well over 200 and caused the server to crash.

The Event Thugs never officially opened as a community within Clan Quest. They just kinda “appeared” and nobody questioned it. Their notoriety resulted in Sinistral being promoted to the Low Council in August 2010, and becoming that groups head in April 2011. Hemsky becoming the first Head of Honor Council, and Rerecros being made a Moderator and eventually becoming a Low Councilor himself. With Sinistral having passed in real life, Rerecros being busy with adult life in real life, and Hemsky busy with educating himself at Clemson, the group transitioned, and new event hosts would be mentored and assume the mantle of thuginess.

As the culture of the RuneScape game has changed, I look back at the amazing accomplishments of these three event hosts and can’t help wonder if their success could ever be matched. We live in an unfortunate time, where people prefer to AFK or maximize their experience gains. I wish I could convince people attending events is important, but it is hard. Regardless, I can say that my experiences as an attendee of the Event Thugs United, and one of its members, are some of the most positive in my entire time on RuneScape.

Oh, and while I know that the official organization has been closed, there is no doubt in my mind that there are still some people who’ve chosen to make that dangerous decision. What decision you ask? They’re decided to live that Thug Life.

Some final words because it's never enough.

This has probably been the busiest month for the editors team. Some have gone beyond their monthly work to bring all of you things like this magazine you just read. I want to credit them, for we'd be nothing without them:

-Werecool, probably the next DPS officer, worked and reworked for months the pvm article. More than enough for his first (and not last) contribution to the magazine.

-Leo, who just joined the team, put a lot of hours into making that game just on top of this post. He also spared time for the pictures and speech of yesterday's Hoodaholic.

-Cireon, the guy behind the bulletin. What would the magazine be without the mighty bulletin? He also did a Hoodian bulletin and I'm so proud of him. As usual, he was pestered this month. But at least he had some fun:
April 2018 040.png

-Draziw, the boon, not only contributed to the magazine, but went on a forum spree, and made sure the Editors have a place to plan a revolt discuss very important stuff.

-Kitty. He won't listen to me because we made the Hoodaholic and no Pawfiaholic. He only talks about assassinating me and random gibberish. The truth is that 2 interviews wouldn't have been possible without his fuzzy brain.

-Santa, who is still around and helped Were have his article ready to go.

-Tyco, the elf of the hoodian lands, keeps contributing with great stories every month. And the video......Just how cool is to have such a great HoGC? And of course, Raven's interview wouldn't have been what it was without him.

-Shane. Just take a look at what Cireon said in the bulletin. The wiki is where it is thanks to him.

-And finally, but not less important, we have Sira.
You just have no idea what he has done this past month(s). Better: what has he not done this month?
Not only has he contributed to the magazine as he does every single month (covers and members update are his creations), but has done the amazing work no-one else would have done with such perfection: Every single Questaholic issue is now on the wiki thanks to him.
Also believe me when I tell you his work is not done. He has just begun.

April 2018 041.png

Thank you all, honestly. This wouldn't be the same without you.
