Changes to the Wiki
Changes are being made to the Wiki that, at face value, may not be apparent, but fundamentally change how the entire categorization and styling systems work, with the end goal of simplifying the Wiki and making the process easier to comprehend for all members. Until this point, the entire categorization system on the Wiki has been handled by a single piece of code: "{{Footer}}", that automatically added page footers and categories to every article on the Wiki. While this allowed for easy centralization and control of all pages categories, it was difficult to set up and maintain, and even more difficult to figure out if you yourself did not set it up. Additionally, the website team discovered that handling the Wiki this way was actively slowing that entire portion of the website down, impacting user experience and usability.

To solve this problem, the Content Editors have restructured the way the Wiki's categorization and Footer systems work to more closely resemble a normal Wikipedia page - or even something like the RuneScape Wiki. Every page will have categories and footers added to it manually, and which categories go on what pages will be determined and managed by the Wiki staff. This makes contributing to the Wiki significantly easier in that it is much easier to comprehend and learn, but requires a little bit more work to maintain. Hopefully this can open more doors for people interesdted in contributing to the Clan Wiki!

Dungeons & Dragons
Last month, we made changes to our Discord policies to make it easier for people to start new groups within Clan Quest, especially on Discord. Two new Discord channels were added - #nationstates and #dungeons-and-dragons, as the start of this new trend. The latter of these two channels, designed for the discussion and organization of Dungeons and Dragons games, has been especially active in the last few weeks, and as of March 23rd the first ever Clan Quest game of "D&D" has been hosted! Dungeons & Dragons is gradually becoming its own entity within Clan Quest - its own "Guild" - and even though the channel is being used to talk about and run the game currently being hosted by Draziw (which you can read more about here), everyone should feel free to participate! It doesn't matter if you just want to talk about the game, experiences you've had, or even start a new one! The more people participate in the discussion, the better it is for everyone who enjoys the game!

Help Wanted!
Clan Quest is ever growing, and we are always in need of some extra hands around the website and Content Editors group! A few months ago we set up the Clan Quest GitHub so that members of Clan Quest could help with the code and design of the website. If you are interested in web design, and looking for a project to work on either for practice or for experience, then a good place to start would be our issues list! This is a "to-do" list we have built that anyone with access to the GitHub can work on. If you're interested, contact a member of the Clan Council and we can set you up!

Additionally, our social media manager - Shane - is still looking for some extra hands to help manage our social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter. This is a great opportunity for social media managers, please contact Shane if you'd like to know more about what we need!

And finally, the Content Editors - the team that puts out the Questaholic for you every month - are always looking for more content creators to contribute to the Magazine. Even if you are not sure how you can contribute, but know you would like to, reach out! We are always looking for the extra help, and will find a place for you.

Interrogation by Choto

Who is your number one Mahjarrat and why?
Palkeera. I know she’s dead and we know next to nothing about her, but you can’t change my mind.

April 2019 010.jpg

GENERAL

What are you currently studying?
I’m currently studying Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (basically how and why drugs work) with a focus on pancreatic cell maturation and dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetes, and I hope to get my doctorate degree within the next couple of years.

What do you do for a living?
Currently, I work as a laboratory researcher at the university I’m studying at. Day to day work for me varies wildly with the different experiments I’m designing and carrying out in order to gather data for my thesis project, but I like the variety

What's your favourite sport?
Not everyone considers it a sport, but competitive marching band will always be my favorite to play and watch. I also enjoy watching any kind of college-level sport, since I’ve lived on or near college campuses for the last eight years or so, and games are either free or readily broadcasted around town.

Which are your favourite childhood cartoons?
I was never allowed to watch cartoons as a kid, but I did so in secret anyway - my favorites were ‘Danny Phantom’ and ‘Courage The Cowardly Dog.’

April 2019 011.jpg

If you could have any super power other than invincibility, what would you choose and why?
Honestly, I’d love to have the ability to mimic any sound or voice. Besides being fun, it would make it a lot easier to do voices for characters in Dungeons and Dragons.

What are your favourite outdoor activities?
When I have time, I like to kayak, hike, and birdwatch.

Which is your favourite movie?
Hot Fuzz. It’s got to be one of the tightest scripts ever written, the comedy is on-point, the acting is great, and even though I’ve seen it many times it’s still enjoyable to watch.

April 2019 012.jpg

What sort of music and artists do you listen to?
I’ll listen to pretty much anything if it bops hard enough, but my favorite genres would have to be celtic folk, folk metal, electro swing, ska, epic orchestral, big band jazz, and funk. Artist-wise, Gaelic Storm, Earth Wind and Fire, The Offspring, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Two Steps From Hell, and Korpiklaani are currently at the top.

What is your favourite book?
If you like modern sci-fi with a splash of eldritch horror, The Laundry Files series by Charles Stross is a fun series. I picked up one of the books on a dare from a friend and ended up enjoying it.

What's your favourite type of food?
I’ll never turn down good sushi.

Do you prefer mom's food or restaurant food?
Mom’s (and Dad’s) food. They’re both good cooks, and having lived on a budget since I moved out, I really appreciate their home cooking when I visit.

GAMING

Which are your favourite games?
Runescape, The Legend of Zelda series (Breath of the Wild being my current favorite), the Space Quest series, Skyrim, Dungeons and Dragons, and I’ve recently gotten into Dark Souls.

What are your favourite video game genres?
I still enjoy old point-and-click adventure games ala Space Quest and King’s Quest.

April 2019 013.jpg

Which was the most difficult video game you ever beat?
Out of the games I’ve played that actually have an ending, probably King’s Quest II (specifically the VGA remake, since the original wouldn’t run for me).

What's the toughest thing you've ever accomplished in a video game?
Beating Nomad’s Elegy was a big win, since the boss fight (which Kexy coached me through, big thanks to her!) was particularly difficult for me.

When playing with friends, do you prefer video games or tabletop games, and why do you prefer one over the other?
I can’t say I prefer one over the other - both are equally fun for me, whether playing with or against friends in video games or getting involved in collaborative storytelling and roleplaying that tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons involve.

RUNESCAPE

What's your favourite skill?
It’s not my favorite to train, but I like the idea of herblore a lot. Perhaps it’s my background in chemistry that draws me to potion-making.

What's your favourite quest?
Tough question, but right now it’s a tie for me between Missing, Presumed Death, Dishonor Among Thieves, and Children of Mah.

April 2019 014.png

When did you start playing?
I first played the game back in 2006, but started seriously playing in 2014.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
Mining!

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all employees of Jagex. What do you say?
I love the sound team and all the effort they put into the game’s music and sound design, and I wish more quests would be voice acted in the future because it adds so much to the atmosphere and experience of questing as a whole.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
Rellekka, because I love the Fremennik.

GENERAL PART 2

What are your biggest dreams in life?
I want to start my own small-scale craft brewery and eventually publish a trilogy of sci-fi mystery novels I’m currently working on.

If you could have any 3 animals in the world (only real animals, no fictional), which would you pick?
A cat (something big and fluffy like a Maine Coon), a raven, and a wombat.

If you had to give up one of your senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) which one would you pick?
Definitely smell. My nose is hypersensitive, and I could do without smelling some of the things I work with in the lab.

How would you describe yourself to others?
Anxious scientist who sometimes draws and writes.

April 2019 015.png

What is your most used item in your daily life?
Probably my laptop - it’s where I do almost all of my data analysis for work and what I use to write.

Best thing about your trip to London?
The best thing about my most recent trip to London was the Night Before Runefest. Meeting clan members and seeing the London Philharmonic play some epic Runescape music was an experience I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

Will you go to RuneFest this year?
Yes!

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
If you’re more inclined to seeing some amazing natural sights, check out Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, especially in the summer during a new moon for the stargazing.

April 2019 016.jpg

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
In RS, my latest favorite location would have to be the Dragonkin Laboratory because of the half volcanic cavern half abandoned lab aesthetic. In real life, my favorite place is easily Corvallis, Oregon. It’s a fun little town that holds a lot of good memories for me, and I always jump at the chance to visit it again.

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?
“Here’s to one more day above the roses.” It comes from a Gaelic Storm song of the same name, and it’s a phrase that reminds me to try and live life to the fullest because this is the only one I have.

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
As my name suggests, I play the saxophone, specifically tenor sax. My first instrument is the clarinet, though, and I’ve played that for upwards of 12 years. I’d like to learn how to play the bagpipes and the accordion as well.

Tell us the story behind your name!
Back in 2010, I picked up Runescape again for a short time, but I had to make a new account, since I had forgotten the old one I had started on in 2006. At the time, I was in Germany on a foreign exchange program, and I had recently learned how to play the saxophone. So, I made the name ‘Saxspieler’ to reflect that.

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
I speak English and German, though my German has gone by the wayside a bit in recent years. I’d like to learn how to speak Finnish, since I have a lot of family in Finland.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
Probably my phone. I figure it’d be useful to help me navigate, at least.

Who is the one clannie you really miss?
I miss chatting with Kexy.

What's your first memory of the clan?
Meeting some clan members at RuneFest 2007 before I was even a member and getting recruited as a result. [Editor’s note: Don’t you mean 2017? x’D]

Coffee or tea?
Coffee at work, tea at home.

Which is the most interesting God? Why?
V! He’s an interesting mix of honorable and manipulative, and I wish we had gotten to learn more about him before he died.

THE ALEX 43 SECTION BECAUSE WHY NOT

Did you find it yet?
Yes!

Where was it?
[REDACTED]

Are you going to take good care of it this time?
It will be contained under 24/7 surveillance.

Do you have a new place for it?
Backup containment procedures have been identified and are ready to be implemented at any time.

Is this place safe?
Primary and backup containment sites are secure.

Would it last a long time if it stayed there forgotten?
Due to the nature of it, any lapse in surveillance would result in another breach.

Do you need help?
Containment teams are on standby if assistance is required.

Is this a good idea?
It would be a worse idea to let it run free again. Until such a time when its anomalous properties can be neutralized, ongoing containment is the best course of action.

Can you say that with confidence?
Yes.

Is this how it's going to be?
Yes.

BACK TO CHOTO

What is the best part of being a Cabbagemancer?
The natural camouflage my robes provide me. I could be hiding in any cabbage patch, and you’d never know.

Other than cabbage, is there some other type of “mancer” you’d like to see some day? (i.e Bananamancer)
A teamancer! Someone who can brew tea perfectly every single time!

You get to create an Elder God. Gimme a 20 pages-long description on them. (A short answer is also acceptable).
How about an Elder God of procrastination? They’re supposed to help out the others create the universe, but they never get started on their part. What was their role before they started procrastinating? Did they ever have a role before ‘procrastination?’ No one knows.

If you worked for Jagex, do you think you could use your real life skills (studies, work, hobbies, etc) to develop something for RuneScape? What would you do?
Unless there’s a quest that draws heavily upon biochemistry or pharmacology (the Wise Old Man needs a new and improved potion to treat his chronic back pain?), probably not.

Who’s the best saxophonist and why is it John Coltrane?
John Coltrane is a musical genius, and I’ll never argue his status as best saxophonist. Paul Desmond comes in a close second for me.

April 2019 018.jpg

Which is the hardest piece of music you ever had to play?
I had to play ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ for a music test in high school, but the hardest solo piece I ever played would have to be ‘The Tale of Viktor Navorski.’ That clarinet solo is brutal, but so fun to play. Another contender is Nancy Galbraith’s ‘Danza de los Duendes.’

What was your favourite exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London?
I only really got to see the Human Evolution gallery, so I guess that wins by default? I’ll have to go through the entire museum next time I’m in London.

Best thing of Clan Quest?
The people and the focus on questing!

What is the meaning of life?
It’s what you make of it (or 42, whichever floats your boat).
