October 2019 003.png

GENERAL

What are you currently studying?
Life. I graduated college in May of 2017, and now I'm working on being a real adult.

What do you do for a living?
I currently work in the analytics department at a health insurance company. Going on 2 years in November.

What's your favourite sport?
Lacrosse was my favorite sport to play, but now that I'm old and past my prime I mostly watch (American) football, primarily college.

October 2019 004.jpg

Which are your favourite childhood cartoons?
I was a big Samurai Jack and Dragon Ball Z guy back in the day.

If you could have any super power other than invincibility, what would you choose and why?
Probably teleportation or flight, because I hate driving and hate getting on planes. [Editor’s note: Who are you? Sira?]

What are your favourite outdoor activities?
I'm not the most outdoorsy. I play golf when I can, and I like spending time around my pool.

Which is your favourite movie?
I'm not sure off the top of my head what my favorite is. The two movies I've probably watched the most are Step Brothers and Get Rich or Die Tryin'

What sort of music and artists do you listen to?
I listen to a lot of rap still, and I kinda just listen to whatever pops up on the radio, or whatever my brother suggests I listen to.

Which books would you recommend?
I'm currently reading two books about statistics and how the games of (American) football and basketball have changed over the years, but I'm not sure how many people are going to take that recommendation.

Do you prefer mom's food or restaurant food?
Definitely my mom's. She's a phenomenal cook and leaving home for college really made me realize how bad I took that for granted for 18 years.

October 2019 005.png

What's your favourite type of food?
Growing up in New Jersey I've been eating Italian food for 25 years now, and I think that's going to take a slight edge over Mexican food.

GAMING

Which are your favourite games?
I still play a lot of Rainbow Six Siege, I dabble in Fortnite, and I play a lot of NHL '20. I'm also into Ghost Recon: Breakpoint right now because I'll play virtually any looter shooter there is.

October 2019 006.jpg

What are your favourite video game genres?
Definitely shooters, but I also like sports and RPGs to some degree (too many hours of Skyrim to ignore that part of my life)

Which was the most difficult video game you ever beat?
I played Dead Space 2 on the highest difficulty. I'm not sure if it was necessarily hard as much as it was tough to convince myself to have several heart attacks every night playing it.

What's the toughest thing you've ever accomplished in a video game?
Probably beating Dead Space 2. I also got all of the achievements back in Halo 3 when you needed to do that to get the Katana armor set, and that felt pretty good.

October 2019 007.jpg

When playing with friends, do you prefer video games or tabletop games, and why do you prefer one over the other?
I'm a video games person. Board games are usually too much of a time commitment for me or any of my friends, so they always end poorly or at least unfinished.

RUNESCAPE

What's your favourite skill?
I think dungeoneering was my favorite when it was still alive and you could always find a group. If it was still like that, and you include the elite dungeons, it would definitely be my favorite. [Editor’s note: But what about your favourite skill now?]

What's your favourite quest?
I liked the vampire quests. They had solid stories and Darkmeyer is a cool place.

October 2019 008.png

When did you start playing?
My first account probably around 2006? This one, I think around 2009 I suppose because I just got my 10 year cape.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
Either the quest cape or defence, I can't remember at this point.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
Keldagrim. I'm throwing back some beers with some dwarves.

October 2019 009.png

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all employees of Jagex. What do you say?
Make invention XP less terrible to get please. I got on this train after everyone already had 99 and I just can't figure it out. [Editor’s note: I’m 120 and still don’t know what I’m doing]

GENERAL PART 2

What are your biggest dreams in life?
I don't have huge dreams. Just wanna live comfortably and have enough to provide for a family some day.

If you could have any 3 animals in the world (only real animals, no fictional), which would you pick?
I like my dogs, if I could get a baby tiger that stays tiny, I'd take that, and probably one of those mini giraffes from those commercials a few years ago because my girlfriend would love that.

If you had to give up one of your senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) which one would you pick?
Probably smell. I think the rest of them are more important, and I'm infinitely more upset by bad smells than I am overjoyed by good ones.

How would you describe yourself to others?
I'm quiet, but I listen. And I'm a firm believer in anything worth doing is worth doing right, and doing at 100%.

What is your most used item in your daily life?
Well I'm on my computer for work at least 8 hours a day, and I think most people would be lying if they didn't say their cell phone outside of work. Other than that? Probably my xbox. I'm a big nerd.

Will you go to RuneFest next year?
Nope.

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
Attend a big time college football game. Preferably in the southeast, but there are a few stadiums I'd be willing to make an exception for.

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
I went to Colorado once, and that was incredible. It's one of the first times I actually appreciated the nature around me. I also love Clemson, South Carolina thanks to spending the best 5 years of my life there. In game? Probably Varrock because of how much time I spent back there way back when, before the grand exchange.

October 2019 010.jpg

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
I did play the drums in high school, and the trumpet way back in elementary school. I'd probably pick the drums back up if I had the time/money.

Tell us the story behind your name!
When I was in 9th grade, for some reason the seniors on my lacrosse team said I looked like Ales Hemsky (I don't) and that's just what people called me.

October 2019 011.png

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
Just English and I can kinda(?) read some Spanish thanks to taking classes from 6th-11th grade.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
Probably my phone and/or computer. They seem pretty critical to surviving in another country.

Who is the one clannie you really miss?
Mackin'. He was always a good dude, and funny enough I actually ran into him in-game by that broken down cart south of Varrock once recently.

What's your first memory of the clan?
Probably gettting recruited and being told that I was now part of a race between myself and Draz's brother to see who could get their quest cape first.

Coffee or tea?
Neither. Just can't get behind either one.

Which is the most interesting God? Why?
I like Bandos and Zamorak. I think they're the most rational and represent real life the best. The others are all idealist.

October 2019 012.jpg

Best thing of Clan Quest?
The people, duh. The people in this clan are the only reason I come back every time I take a hiatus.

THE ALEX 43 SECTION BECAUSE WHY NOT

Did you find it yet?
Nope.

Where was it?
If I knew, I would have found it.

Are you going to take good care of it this time?
Probably not, even if I do find it.

Do you have a new place for it?
Nah, I’m full of bad places.

Is this place safe?
Probably?

Would it last a long time if it stayed there forgotten?
Only time will tell. . Do you need help?
That would be great.

Is this a good idea?
Probably not.

Can you say that with confidence?
No, hence the probably.

Is this how it's going to be?
Forever and always.

BACK TO CHOTO

Back when you were 15, you wanted to become a physical therapist. Did you made it? Why or why not?
Nope! I realized medicine and the human body were a little much for me. I went the engineering route instead.

Remember that time I travelled back in time and said happy birthday to you for a second time? If you could go back in time, where and when would you go? Why?.
I do. If I could go back in time, I'd probably go back to the Clemson vs. Notre Dame game my senior year of college. That was just an awesome time.

October 2019 013.jpg

I still don’t understand what this “lacrosse” thing is. Help me.
Take ball, run with ball, pass ball, put ball in back of net. But the ball is attached to a stick instead of your hands or feet. And you can hit people with both your body and said stick.

Tell me Quest Kitty’s darkest secret. Also tell me how to make him log back in.
Not an actual Kitty. Not an actual quest either. As far as getting him back, idk man your guess is as good as mine.

What is the meaning of life?
I don't think there is one true meaning, but life's what you make of it so you might as well enjoy the ride and make the most of what you've got.

QUESTAHOLIC PRESENTS

An interview with clan’s top writer, Varangian Bard

By Choots.

<::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::}]xxxx()o

October 2019 014.jpg

Bard is the bard-looking one.

GENERAL

What are you currently studying?
I’m currently studying Professional Writing. It’s a mix of creative, business, and online writing with little sprinkles of editing thrown in here and there.

What do you do for a living?
What I do as a living couldn’t be further apart from what I study. I’m not even sure what my job title is. I know I work in finance and I help out with the contracting and procurement branches. It’s a government job!

October 2019 015.jpg

What's your favourite sport?
My favourite sport would constantly rotate. I would enroll in a local team of that sport, lose every match for about a year, and then find a new thing. I’m not much of a sports person anymore.

Which are your favourite childhood cartoons?
I grew up in Denmark and most of the American cartoons that were on air were dubbed pretty badly. The best local stuff was always really odd but captivated me as a kid. Just google “Kaj og Andrea”.

October 2019 016.jpg

If you could have any super power other than invincibility, what would you choose and why?
Shape shifting sounds fun. Get to be whatever you want whenever you want, think of the possibilities!

What are your favourite outdoor activities?
During winter, I always look forward to a good skate on the city’s canal. Otherwise, I’m very much an indoors person. So many lovely things are there, why would I leave?

Which is your favourite movie?
Life of Brian secures a solid number one. Always relevant, always funny.

October 2019 017.jpg

What sort of music and artists do you listen to?
I can’t narrow anything concrete, but I gravitate towards high speed music with discernable lyrics. I’m listening to We Cry Diamonds as of late if you want an example.

Which books would you recommend?
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy should be required reading in schools. Same goes for the Discworld series.

What's your favourite type of food?
I know it sounds really boring, but it’s mashed potatoes. Butter, salt, and then shove it down my gob. There has never been a moment where I couldn’t eat more.

Do you prefer mom's food or restaurant food?
Depends what she’s cooking. Oven food? Heck yeah. Otherwise leave it to the professionals mom. [Editor’s note: *Calls Bard’s mom*]

GAMING

Which are your favourite games?
With nostalgia goggles on, I have to say it would be Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2. I’m sort of all over though. I loved all three dark souls games, will always rep West of Loathing, and have over three thousand hours dumped into Planetside 2

October 2019 018.jpg

What are your favourite video game genres?
Another hard question. I prefer my games to be story driven, but if I play co-op I’m down for anything. RPGs, (Grand) Strategy, and emergent narrative games like Rimworld and Prison architect are where I’ll gravitate.

Which was the most difficult video game you ever beat?
I have a vague memory of beating The Impossible Game while killing time in a high school computer lab. Sure, I’ve played harder games, but that thing was designed to be unfair. A real answer would be 100%ing the dark souls trilogy.

What's the toughest thing you've ever accomplished in a video game?
It maybe doesn’t fit the exact definition, but maxing in Runescape would be my answer. I’m very averse to grind in general, and I’m surprised I even stuck to it long enough to get the cape.

When playing with friends, do you prefer video games or tabletop games, and why do you prefer one over the other?
It depends. Do we know how to play? Then tabletop games all the way. Otherwise, video games take this one.

RUNESCAPE

What's your favourite skill?
Played properly, it’s Dungeoneering. I know the meta is to rush floors with items you already have, but a low-level party that’s dedicated to making everything they can on route leads to some excellent, engaging, and meticulous gameplay.

What's your favourite quest?
I’m never quite sure, but I keep thinking about While Guthix Sleeps. Good writing, solid tone, and ground-breaking lore. Need I say more?

When did you start playing?
2007! Made my account properly when I was in middle school.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
Quest cape! What other cape could it be?

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
If I knew that East Ardougne was a full-sized medieval capital city, I’d go there first.

October 2019 019.png

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all employees of Jagex. What do you say?
“I know the execs are breathing down your neck. I’m not mad at you, I’m mad at them. Continue pouring your heart and soul into your work until you’re done. Also new quest when?”

GENERAL PART 2

What are your biggest dreams in life?
Landing a job as a senior narrative designer in a games studio renowned for their storytelling. I’m talking Beamdog, Larion and CD Projekt. Nothing would make be happier.

If you could have any 3 animals in the world (only real animals, no fictional), which would you pick?
If I didn’t have to take care of it, I’d say a big ‘ole Komodo dragon. Those things are rad as hell. Two and three would be cats.

If you had to give up one of your senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) which one would you pick?
Smell seems like it would have the least side effects. It was probably voted as “least likely to hamper you in daily life”.

How would you describe yourself to others?
I’d say I’m the humblest person alive. That’s not only idle fact but cold hard speculation.

What is your most used item in your daily life?
I don’t think I go anywhere without my phone. Nothing else comes close to the rates of which I use that.

Will you go to RuneFest next year?
Runefest is always at an awkward time of year for me. I always consider going, but then I look at all my projects that are due and I have to shelve the idea for another year.

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
It so much depends on what kind of person you are. Canada is massive. Want nature? Go to the Canadian Shield, the Rockies, or the arctic. Culture? Visit Montreal, Vancouver or any small town in the Maritimes. I could go on!

October 2019 020.jpg

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
I miss Copenhagen with all my heart. I’ll go back one day but it’s a hell of a trip. In Runescape, I always come back to Priffdinas to take a break. A mental break on top of the waterfall always makes me happy.

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?
My catchphrases are pretty liquid, but I will always tell people to “Be excellent to one another.” I also respond in basic French during English conversations, usually with “Bonjour”, “Quoi?” or “Qu'est que c'est?”.

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
I used to be able to play the Saxophone. Learning how to play the guitar sounds like so much fun, but I don’t have time. If a genie snapped their fingers and made me good at guitar, I wouldn’t pass that up.

Tell us the story behind your name!
Now quick disclaimer, Varangianbard isn’t the username I use anywhere else online, but it’s the one I have for RS. I’m both a tabletop nerd and an avid history student. I love the concept of Scandinavian warriors fighting for the Byzantine empire in the Varangian Guard, and I always end up playing bards or bard like characters in games. Combining them both not only reflects what I like, but it rolls off the tongue nicely!

October 2019 021.jpg

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
I speak English, French and Danish. It’s been a while since I had anyone to speak in Danish with, so I really want to relearn it. It used to be my only language.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
Has to be my wallet. I would want to bring my phone, but phones don’t buy food.

Who is the one clannie you really miss?
Well… everyone. I have so many projects that I’m juggling I don’t have energy to play anymore. Miss you guys.

What's your first memory of the clan?
The time Choto tried to abduct me into his cult. Still free baybeeee! Real answer though. I remember asking a lore question, and instead of being dunked on like I usually was, people gave interesting answers which was followed up with solid discussion.

Coffee or tea?
I’m a hot chocolate man myself. I’ve seen what coffee does to people, and I’ve never found a flavour of tea that I liked.

Which is the most interesting God? Why?
Seren wins the tops spot, as she had the luxury of being introduced later in Runescape’s development so she didn’t have any baggage when the gods were first being introduced. A sympathetic character who just wants what’s best for everyone, although in Desperate Measures she did come across as a bit of a wet rag, so number one might be up for grabs soon.

October 2019 022.png

Best thing of Clan Quest?
People who care about story and lore! I thought I was the only one who read quest dialogue until I joined.

THE ALEX 43 SECTION BECAUSE WHY NOT

Did you find it yet?
I did!

Where was it?
Buried under a kiloton of clourghgs.

Are you going to take good care of it this time?
Only if it will let me.

Do you have a new place for it?
I did, but it dissolved last time I checked.

Is this place safe?
Who’s asking?

Would it last a long time if it stayed there forgotten?
It certainly did last time.

. Do you need help?
I think it needs help.

Is this a good idea?
Best one I ever had.

Can you say that with confidence?
I broke up with Confidence last week. I’m with Rarity now.

Is this how it's going to be?
I don’t make the rules.

BACK TO CHOTO

Why is Dungeons and Dragons so awesome in your experience?
Emergent storytelling. Everyone is coming in with their own unique takes, and watching a party with chemistry is amazing to watch. I love sitting back and watching my players role play amongst themselves while I watch and take notes.

What’s the best (and worst) aspect of being a Content Editor?
The best part of being a content editor is helping people nurture a story. Watching people’s eyes sparkle when they talk is the highlight of every meeting I have. Worst parts are having to tell someone politely that their piece is bad, and no amount of editing will change that. Being diplomatic is an intricate dance of words honesty and encouragement that takes a while to master.

When are you gonna get a real life bycocket?
I’ll buy one when I decide to ignore the fact that they look terrible on me. Until then, I can only dream. Maybe it’s time to invest in tricorns?

October 2019 023.jpg

Excepting Questaholic, do you write for a magazine or newspaper?
I’m a managing editor for one of my college’s online magazines. So not only do I write for it, but I do a lot of editing and coordination for others. It’s high pressure but a lot of fun.

Can I put a smithing banner on your next D&D article? Pretty please?
Only because you said please. I am a generous bard.

What is the meaning of life?
It’s what you make of it. I hold that it’s to make people smile. Let’s enjoy the trip aye?
