An Interview with Wolffi

~!~ ***** ~!~
Howdy clannies. This month we have Wolffi, who kindly agreed to open his soul and reveal his entire life answer some questions to us. Enjoy!

Tyco

What is your earliest Runescape memory?

Mm, I have so many distant memories, but with time they all merge together and it's hard to create a timeline in my head. I used to have a character named Wikingit10 with which I participated in the 2007 Easter event. I don't remember much of the event but I remember the flapping emote with the chicken suit, and I remember the many players in Rimmington flooding the area with said emote.

November 2016 003.png

You get a ticket to visit Gelinor IRL. Where do you go first?

This is a tough choice, I've been contemplating my options whilst looking at the map, and I've chosen Wizard's tower. I hope this visit includes access to the ruins of the old Wizard's tower too.

November 2016 004.png

How would you describe yourself in-game? Brave? The rich guy at the G.E? Adventurer perhaps?

A power-hungry, determined yet careful arcanist. I haven't attached myself with any particular character in the game, and I have not chosen an idol from the NPCs. Perhaps I'm still looking for a character or god that really clicks with my personality.

Will

I really only have one question for Wolffi: Why a wolf?

I have many reasons, and behind my name are many factors. What need to be known is that my username Wolfcastle25 does NOT come from the Simpsons character as people always assume. It actually came from a children's book my sister used to read for me when I was younger. The numbers were simply from the suggested name system. I don't remember what the book is called, though. As for my other preferences, wolves somewhat reflect my personality I suppose. I am a dog person too, and huskies have always been close to my heart despite having never owned any.

Xenon

Are you actually Thor?

Yes. Don't you remember this poster for my movie?

(RIP eyes of fangirls and fanboys.)

Santa

How did you start learning other languages?

My first foreign language was English, I was one of the last pupils who had to start English on 1st grade (now it's 3rd grade onward). When I was on 5th grade, I was forced by my parents to study Russian under a private tutor. On 7th grade we began mandatory Swedish. Out of my own interest I started Japanese, then came high school where I started French, with my friend I continued more intensive studies in Japanese, and started Korean. Along the years I have met people from so many different cultures I've had to learn at least minimal conversational skills in their languages. I've then came to realize I enjoy learning them. I have created myself a studying format for languages which has allowed me to memorize and use different languages fast and my friendships have allowed me to find many native tutors. I do not have an associative mind which allows me to cheat this skill like many known linguists have, I study a lot and I study effectively.

What do you aspire toward?

I aspire to have a medical degree and work in research. I had no idea what I'd become before 2nd year in high school, and then I decided I'd go to medicine. And since then, despite my love for languages, I have worked towards getting the degree.

Would you choose life on an abandoned island with one person you love, or in a crowded city with no family but good opportunities?

Haha, this is such a backwards question. I live in an empty country without my love, but with great opportunities. I've always thought I'd have to move to metropolitan area somewhere far away to be with someone despite having worse opportunities. I'd take the island, anytime. Despite being hungry for knowledge and skill, I would never be happy having only achieved material things. I am a very social person, I would and if need be, will give up the blessing that my country is to be together with the person I love, be it on an abandoned island or not.

What kind of music do you like?

I haven't paid much attention to genres, it's easier for me to tell what kind of music I don't like. Metal, screaming and anything associated with such. I like fast-paced and lyrically interesting music, a great example of which would be my dislike for rap in general, but my love for witty ERBs. I mostly still listen to instrumental pieces, I have used meditation to get through tough times and I find harps, flutes, singing bowls and piano the most relaxing of all instruments.

Do you have anyone to look up to? In game and in real life

In-game as in... characters? Maybe Ariane. From clannies I look up to a few, I won't name them to not leave anyone feeling uncomfortable having my respect and admiration. As in other real life people; Robert Toru Kiyosaki.

November 2016 006.jpg

Do you work part time? What jobs have you worked?

I am currently inbetween jobs as I have ended my 3 month contract with Netflix. I have been going to some interviews and I'm expecting to be hired soon. Meanwhile, I still work freelance translating and I continue to tutor high school seniors for their final exams.

What do you do when you feel down?

I am rarely down. When I do feel down, I take in the moment to keep my sanity, perhaps I'm not emotionless afterall. I have gone through severe depression before and it took me a good while of therapy to understand that when something bad happens to me, the world will keep spinning. People might tip-toe around me if I'm sad or angry, but in the end they'll forget.. as if it never happened. I suppose after I finished therapy, I've always had such a grim reality in my head that I don't allow myself to feel sad. I don't suppress sadness or anger, I just don't have any. I do meditate though, but it doesn't come from need, it comes from habit.

Why do you only have 5 friends on your list?

I used to have a longer list, but it gives me a very antisocial feeling when there are people on my friends list that I never PM, or people who don't actively PM me. I don't actively have conversations with the 5 people on my friends list either, really, but I feel they are the people necessary for me to continue in this game. If I found myself actively talking with someone interesting, I would add them to my list permanently.
That said, my PM is always ON and I will be reachable via the method at any time.

What's your first 99? Favourite skill and why?

My first 99 was Magic, and it gave me all the finger, hand, wrist and arm disabilities you can think of. My favorite combat skill is Magic, I enjoy the graphics and diversity of the skill. For gatherer I have Fishing which has always been my favorite leisure skill in RuneScape. For Artisan I'll choose Construction because I've always been into desing, though I wish there was more variation to what you can build. And finally for support I'll choose Agility because of how it's implemented in the game.

November 2016 007.png

How long do you think you will play this game for?

For as long as I can enjoy being a part of a social community within the game. I no longer have close friends who play the game, and community is my only reason. As fun as questing is, it means nothing unless there's people who share your ambition towards it.

What is the biggest change you have been through on RS?

I suppose I've been through most of them. I wouldn't say the biggest changes to the game were EoC, Wilderness rework or Bot nukes, though. I'd say the game changed the most not directly through an update, but when the playerbase completely abandoned minigames along the years. There used to be a time when Fist of Guthix was full, when guilds were used and when treasure trails were exciting. None of this is true anymore. This game is now called GrindScape, BossScape and FashionScape, and I am truly saddened that even within our community there are increasingly less social players. I believe this will be the reason I'll eventually leave the game and move on without it.

What's the one thing you are proud of in game? Real life?

For in-game, I am proud to say that my name is known in fairly many communities. I have befriended many notable people during the years and they have spoken only good words of me. For being a trustworthy, helpful and a friendly person to so many is something to be truly proud of. The same, or mostly the same goes to real life. I am social and I've befriended people from all corners of the world, I have personally met people from all continents and I have shared my culture in exchange for knowledge of theirs. Anywhere I go, I will have a friend and a place to stay.

Shane

How many other languages do you speak?

Because I've focused on learning more of my current languages I've stopped at 12 total, so my native language of Finnish and 11 other languages on a conversational level or better.

And, any tips for those wanting to learn new languages?

Many, but learning languages comes differently to everyone. Some of the more usable advices in somewhat of an order would be: before you start learning a language, do not learn a language to learn specific sentences, this will lead to misunderstandings and it will not give you an actual knowledge of the language. Furthermore, before you start learning a language, you will have to get over the feeling of being taught like a toddler. You aren't going to learn effectively if you start from the hardest conversations. You will have to be spoonfed the simplest of information before you can comprehend and memorize the rest of the language. After you've chosen the language that you need and interests you, use all resources at your disposal. Don't overlook educational webpages or books that are meant for young children. Use the library, use the internet, use apps on your phone, use the weird foreign friends and/or exchange students nobody talks to. They are your best and fastest source to learning new languages. Finally, use the language anywhere you can. You cannot completely learn a language if you have never spoken it. You will need human interaction using that language, and yes, you will embarrass yourself, and they will probably laugh at your ridiculous pronunciation, but that's the only way to know you're getting the hang of it.

Choto

When did you start playing?

In 2004-2005, elementary school years. Everyone else was playing so I figured I'd start.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?

My first cape of accomplishment was the Magic Skillcape on 16/5/2012 and my first Quest Cape on 1/9/2012

November 2016 008.png

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?

There's only one true way to welcome all tourists into Finland, stuff their faces with Finnish salty liquorice. It will leave you wanting for nothing more from the country, but on the bright side, everything else feels like heaven after you get that taste out of your mouth. (I'm not even kidding, salty liquorice is banned from being transported outside certain areas because FDA has proclaimed it to be harmful and toxic.)

November 2016 010.jpg

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?

Lunar Isle and Mos'Le Harmless for RuneScape.
The scenic rice farms in China (such as Longshen rice terraces) and the cities of Naples and Pompeii in Italy.

November 2016 011.jpg

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?

''If there's a story to it, I'm interested.''

Which quest do you believe to be the best?

Now that I've replayed them, Rune Mysteries and Rune Memories (the reworked ones) are probably the best quests. They compete with the Mahjarrat quests in terms of interesting lore. This question could be asked from me every week, and I'd always have a different answer.

Do you have a very expensive item (party hat, for instance)? If so, do you remember your reaction when you obtained it?

Around 2010 I had one of each H'ween mask (red, blue and green) and a Santa hat (regular). I sold them all shortly after. I do not find any excitement or pleasure in carrying valuable items unless they're unobtainable and untradable. I hold onto my limited edition items as if they were expensive.

Do you play an instrument? If so, which one and which is you favourite music genre?

Yes, piccolo, guzheng (some) and guitar. I don't have a favorite, but if there was one to pick, then I suppose I listen to classical most.

You ask, I ask, how are your player owned port's ship called?

  1. 1 Papa Dragon - in reference to Miles Quaritch in the film Avatar
  2. 2 The Black Star - in reference to a Daedric artifact in TESV: Skyrim.
  3. 3 The Deadly Cabbage - in reference to Brassica Prime and its lore.
  4. 4 The Lunar Tide - in reference to the natural phenomenon.

That said, I was hoping we were able to type in custom names in ports, then I would've named all my ships in reference to Arpeggio of Blue Steel.

Thank you everyone for asking, answering, and reading. Have a great month!

Clan Quest Bulletin
October 2016

October has been quite a quiet month, but this is only the calm before the storm, because in November Clan Quest will celebrate its seventh birthday!

Birthday celebrations On November 9 Clan Quest turns 7. We will have a party on November 9, which will include a healthy load of cabbages, and also a special special anniversary raffle, which might just include a healthy load of cabbages as well. For the raffle we are depending on you, since you will be able to contribute prizes to the pool. And... you will only read this here: if we reach a total value of at least 200M in prizes, I will sing "happy birthday" for Clan Quest in the clan Discord!

In addition to using the anniversary to party, I have also started up an incentive to revise the clan history and have it documented on the clans wiki, but also on the new offsite.

If you have other plans to celebrate the feeling of family we have in Clan Quest, don't hesitate to start your own initiative. Feel free to get in touch if you need an opinion, or any other form of help.

Clan Quest vision The clan anniversary is also a good opportunity to look back on the past year, and look forward on the next year. On or around the clan anniversary I will be sharing my own view on these things, and share some of the plans we are having for the upcoming months.

If there is anything in particular you would like me to talk about, feel free to drop me a message. In my opinion, working with a clan like this is very much about having a conversation, and I would like to remind you all that everybody has a voice in this clan, so don't hesitate to make yourself heard and be part of the clan's future.

New offsite In the meanwhile, the offsite is now almost ready. The only work left are some small details, and making the forum integrate with a bit of a wider website, so we can show additional information on separate pages and have an actually useful homepage. Keep your eyes out for an announcement about when we are releasing the new site very soon!

Tyco Elf has joined Shane (who has been indispensable in this redesign, let that be known) and me by working on designing an updated clan logo which we can hopefully share with you soon as well. I am really excited with the flexibility the new design has, and it will hopefully finish the new, modern look the offsite will have.

When the new offsite is released, our work on the website will be far from done. In a way, the new layout will be just the start. The new site is meant to be a framework for lots of future expansions. We are aiming to make the offsite a true central experience for the clan, with tight integration into all of the clan's communication channels. I am truly excited about the opportunities the new website offers, and I cannot wait to get started on building some really interesting systems into the offsite.

Wrapping up
This month's bulletin is a bit shorter than usual due to the unconventional circumstances I had to write this under, but I am looking forward to the amazing things that are to happen in November.

RSMV Review

Something different this month.. an Old School RSMV filmed in 2015. This is Centuries by Fall Out Boy, done by DarkRose Jess. With the signature quest cape, she makes me think she's one of us.

One of the better ones with a story to tell, she travels around the whole of RS to film clips. Even going so far to Elemental Workshop, acquiring the mind bar through a painful long process to film the clip on the electrified chair. This is done after the camera movement update. With the quest cape, she has a repertoire of emotes and locations to go to. With a few friends, she can make scenes with many people. She is truly an experienced players. Some of the things she's done, I even forgot.

Things like the werewolf agility course, where you can go down the death slide by biting a harness, and using lunar teleports which happens to have a different emote than regular teleport!

Good trip down the nostalgia lane.
