Bulletin - June 2018

It has finally happened, Runefest tickets are on sale! Early Bird tickets were gone within a day. With a live orchestra on the night before and a brand new venue, it is set to become a blast. So far we have only eight people confirmed to go, which means we can do much better! Tickets are for sale via Once you have your ticket, let the people in the Discord #runefest channel know, and we'll make sure to get you your rank.

As with last year, we will be using both Discord and the Runefest 2018 forums to schedule our plans, and our stay. The earlier we know who is coming, the better we can plan ahead, so let us know as soon as possible if you're coming. If you're not sure yet, it can still be helpful to get an indication. You're welcome to let me know in private if you have any plans you're not ready to share yet. If you have any concerns, you can get in touch with myself or a clan councillor.

The new format of Runefest is making things a bit more unpredictable, and many people still have to finalise travel arrangements, so please bear with us while we plan things.

As said before, we're planning on looking the part during Runefest. While we don't want to prevent people from cosplaying, we will most likely have some Clan Quest branded gear for you to wear during Runefest. To that end, we're still working on our updated branding. We have professionals working on it as we speak, but making sure we get it right takes time. We'll share with you as soon as we have something to show!

Meanwhile, if you have any specific wishes, please let us know. Also, if you want to design some branded material yourself, get in touch and we'll talk! We're hoping to open a small storefront for all members, and we're happy to add additional items.

A quick reminder to check out the suggestions for the Overwatch Guild and Guild Wars 2 Guild. If you have a group of members with a shared interest, get together and start a guild! If you need any help, the Clan Council is here to support you.

RS3 Guild Membership
It seems only a very short while ago that we introduced the new Constitution. Yet it has already been in effect for a while. Last month we took another step and announced that Discord would be further limited to guests. From this it became clear that our traditional values of membership don't really always apply. Several familiar faces in our community don't actually hold a rank in-game, but were regular visitors and contributors to Discord.

Instead of working with a guest access system, the RS3 Guild Council decided to make an in-game rank no longer a requirement for being in the RS3 Guild, and of course also by extension Clan Quest. We have wanted to give these people who cannot join our clan in RuneScape for varying reasons a place in our clan ever since the new Constitution, and it makes me happy that we have finally come to an agreement on how to do this. A special welcome to all of you who have joined through this new system.

The decision took a long while to make, because in a way the whole concept of membership had to be reinvited. The final solution has many advantages and provides a template for other guilds. I don't want to take too much fame away from the Guild Council, so I will leave it to them to give a more detailed explanation in the coming days.

We have worked long and hard on building a wiki system for the website. You can already use it to read the magazine, catch up on the entire clan history, or learn more about your favourite clan member. It doesn't stop there though. We're counting on all of you to add content to this part of the website. Everybody can start a new page, or even edit existing ones. Talk to Sirapyro if you're not sure where to start.

The Editors team is always looking for people who are willing to make stuff for the website. Whether you want to contribute to the magazine, work on the website, make art or YouTube videos, there is plenty of work to go around. Talk to myself, Choto 3000, or Sirapyro if you're interested in joining the Editors team!

June 2018 026.png

Tyco Elf

What is your earliest Runescape memory?
Wandering Lumbridge in 2002, amazed that I could open and close doors, and fight monsters. I remember hanging out in Edgeville not quite understanding PVP yet, just avoiding skulled players, even around town.

How would you describe yourself, both IRL and in game?
IRL I am a lot of things. An outdoorsman, gun enthusiast, and gamer geek. In game I'm just the high level noob.

What item do you use the most, both IRL and in game?
A sledge hammer at work. A beer in my hand at home. The only thing in game I almost always have on is my Luck of the Dwarves... Who doesn't need a little extra luck?

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
I would start knocking out quests. Become a god among men.

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all employees of Jagex. What do you say?
Stop pandering to investors. They aren't the ones that is going to keep Runescape running for the next 20 years if you ignore the players.

Tell me your darkest secret that would make your boss triple your salary.
I've killed for less... (The military didn't pay squat)

Alex 43

- A bunch of essay questions -
Write your own college essays Alex.

What future event/discovery excites you the most?
Getting 400 quest points

Whats the most efficient way to herd the noobs?
To control the masses you need but one of 3 things. Money, Pleasure, or Fear.
So I would herd the noobs with cabbage... A sentient cabbage.... You decide which of the 3 that is.

Whats the best quest dialog line you've seen?
I love the occasional funny quest. They put out some of the funniest dialogue. Subject to change, the dialouge about the “thingummywut” is pretty funny. But after the latest quest... I have to say I think Charos may be my spirit animal.

How would you describe yourself in precisely 37 words?
Noob X 38 - 1

Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh?
Magic: The Gathering

What's your favourite mythological object? The club of dagda to posses the power of life and death. The head of the club able to destroy 9 men over a distance with a single swing, the handle able to grant life. Or the seal of Solomon to harness the power of complete control and dominion over demons, able to control or banish demons with a single thought. There are many mythological artifacts, each with unimaginable power, and I'd be beyond exited and a little terrified if even one of them truly exisits.

What's your favourite mythological creature?
The Honey Badger from Farcry

How many yaks would a pack yak pack if a pack yak could pack yaks?

Would you rather watch the Star Wars prequels on repeat for a week, or be cursed so that you always have to sneeze while someone takes a photo of you?
Screw meta-cloriens

Karen Angel

How many times do you brush your teeth a day?
Once in the morning, once before bed, and once before going out for public events like parties or a date.

How often do you floss?
Not as much as I wish I did.. probably twice a week.

What brand of toothpaste do you use?
Crest Pro Health Advanced or 3d white

What are your favorite pair of shoes you currently own.
I use Merrell's Moab series hiking shoes (currently v2) for my day to day use. They are comfortable and practical. For nights out I wear Rockport Oxford style dress shoes, my 13W feet look ridiculous without the laces.

How often do you exercise?
When I'm at work i'm usually too tired to workout. But I try to get in at least an hour session a day when I'm home.

Whats the fastest you've ran 1 mile?
Fastest when I was in the army was 2 miles in 12:34.. would probably been faster than a 6:17 if I sprinted out a mile for a time. Much slower now that I'm not running 6-10 miles a day.

What is your favorite snack?
Fruit at work is available at the camp chow halls. So I like to peel and eat a few grapefruit while I work. Other than that a bit of jerky or a trail mix is pretty good at satisfying a snack attack.

What is your favorite anime, and why?
I liked the story line in Attack on Titan. But as for favorite I'd have to say 'One Punch Man' is pretty fun. How bored he stays, and how they make fun of the A typical hero and their pointless backstory is awesome.

What is the best dad joke you have ever heard?
The best dad jokes are in the moment. So like if you buy milk and the cashier asks “would you like that milk in a bag?” and you reply “No in the carton is just fine.” They just come naturally at times.

If one RS minigame/DnD could exist in real life, which one would you want and why?
Penguin Hide n' Seek. Just going about your day and randomly seeing a penguin spying on you would be funny as hell.

Favorite RS music track and why?
The original Login screen song. That used to be the ultimate hype song waiting 5-10 minutes for the game to load back in the day.

Cabbage or bananas?
Bananas for recovery, cabbage for nutrients.

Choto 3000

When did you start playing?

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
Quest point cape, followed by slayer cape

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
Visit the Rocky Mountain area, see the breathtaking vistas, hunt, fish, hike. Or travel the country in a rental... its what a lot of foreigners do. The US is a vast and very very widely ranging land in the terrain, biomes, and people you meet.

What are your favorite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
RS... I spend most of my time in Prifddinas so I guess that would be it. RL I love the Rocky mountains. Greeley Colorado is one of my favorite places to go. I have family there, but its just a nice calm town in the hills.

Do you have a motto or a favorite phrase? If so, which is it?
Nothing original... I sometimes quote pop culture phrases that fit into a conversation.

Which quest you believe to be the best?
Its hard to pick just one... But the Elder gods story line and everything that has built up into it is simply the most epic of story lines Runescape has released.

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
I used to play the Violin. I could still probably play a bit if I picked one up... but it's been years since I have.

Tell us the story behind your name!
Xil-Cam came from when I was working on getting my untrimmed Slayer cape, and at the same time 'Brink of Extinction' just rolled out, so I was hyped on that. So pretty much calling myself a hunter or slayer. Extra tidbit, If you lookup my previous name it says “No Regurts”. Go ahead, look it up on runeclan. That is a story for another time if you didn't witness it.

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
English, does pig latin count? I can understand the gist of a conversation in Spanish, and I am trying to learn that one now.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
I'd rather die.

Coffee or tea?
Coffee makes the world spin.

Which is the most interesting God? (You might add a real-world one if you feel like it) Why?
In game, Zaros all the way, very intriguing story behind him. I took a whole year of mythology in high school as an elective. The Norse have a very interesting Parthenon, the Egyptians gods are kinda silly imo, but the Greeks have much better stories. Outside of that, I don't think you want me getting into the finer truths of modern religion.

Best thing of Clan Quest?
Diversity and interaction from around the globe.

Best film ever?
I am so indecisive about that question... Monty python put out some funny films, pretty much one big dad joke. Anything with Mel Gibson in it automatically makes it an action classic of the ages, Brave heart, the Patriot, Lethal Weapon. The original Star Wars before George Lucas went crazy. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and all the movies in its series dating all the way through the Infinity Wars will stand to time as the best comic book movie series of time. I love Deadpool, and his slapstick self aware comedy.

Best book ever?
My favorite book series of all time is the Ender series. To include Ender's Shadow. The story evolves well from a story of a young genius as the chosen commander who destroys an alien race without even realizing it. Evolving into the story following him through the stars and eventually re-introducing this species back to the stars. Its kinda funny throughout to catch how silly the references to what the author in the 80's though about the advances of technology thousands of years into the future. I haven't caught up with the Ender saga for a while, and I haven't read as many of the books as Id like to have read. The ones I have read are, Ender's game, Ender's shadow, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind.

Thank you Cam for agreeing to be interviewed for this month's issue of the Questaholic, and thank you to everyone reading and participating via forums. We'll see you again next month!

Welcome to the official Clan Quest "Feature of the Month"! Every month there will be two different pages featured on our official Clan Wiki: An article, and a members user page! These pages are chosen by the editors team at the end of each month and will have a place on the front page of the wiki until the beginning of the next. Featured pages will also be given an official "Featured Stamp of Approval" that will forever signify that they were once a featured page!

Without further ado, the featured pages for June 2018 are:

FeaturedArticle.png CLAN COUNCIL
The Clan Council is the top level administrative body of Clan Quest. They oversee the whole Clan, rather than a specific Guild. At this moment in time, every member of the Clan Council is also a member of the Questing Clan of RuneScape's Guild Council. Currently, the Clan Council focuses on maintaining the Clan website, Discord, branding, and so on.

The "Clan Council", formerly known as the "High Council", is the top administrative level of Clan Quest that oversees all website management, official branding and media creation, Guild application processing, social media, and finances. They are, in effect, the "leaders" of the Clan as a whole, but as of the implementation of the Constitution do not hold explicit power within any individual Guild

FeaturedMember.png TYCO ELF
Tyco elf is the Questing Clan of RuneScape's first ever Head of Guild Council, and was its Head of Low Council for nearly a year before that. He has long contributed as not only one of Clan Quests most active, enthusiastic, and helpful members, but also as one of its most fun and creative ones, as well. Here is a brief excerpt from his userpage:

Tyco elf (also known as "Tyco" and "The elven elfborne of the elves") is a member of Clan Quest, the questing clan of Runescape. Joining the clan on the 19th of January 2016, his way of supporting the clan and its members made him early noticed by members, especially by the Low and High Council. On the 7th of August 2016 he was invited and accepted into the Low Council by Cireon and Meru in front

If you would like to submit an article or user page to be considered for "Feature on the Month", please get in contact with the editors team on the offsite or Discord. Only the pages that are the most complete will be considered, so get to writing!

A big debate behind the scenes for the last month has been focused around “guests” and their relationship to Clan Quest. It’s brought about multiple questions about how we categorize the users of Clan Quest’s communication channels, and where should the limitation be drawn between who gets what benefits, and who can participate. So what is a member? Let’s take a stroll down memory lane while we think about this question...

A lot of Clan Questers these days weren’t around to realize that the founders of Clan Quest actually came from another community. While we might like to paint ourselves as these brilliant visionaries who saw the potential behind an idea and acted upon it, the reality is that we three had worked with a gaming community centered around the game’s story, and when we opened Clan Quest we did so because we believed our vision for a community to be superior. The consequence of being associated with another community, especially during our initial opening and the few months after, was that we had a lot of people who knew us from the previous group but who were too attached to the previous group to commit to us. When we were founded, we had “members” who weren’t part of Clan Quest officially, but who were easily recognized as part of our community. Membership, especially at the formation of Clan Quest, was an incredibly fluid concept.

As Clan Quest become more established, our members also became significantly more committed. Many of our community is familiar with the RuneScape Clan “Caped Carousers”, but did you know that at one point in Clan Quest’s history, almost 30 people were associated with both organizations at the same time? What changed, were two things. First, the RuneScape game received the Clan Camp update which rendered it impossible for someone to be an official member of two different clans in-game. Second, and more importantly, the people who contributed to Clan Quest did so with great fervor, and the community’s culture developed an expectation of similar care. While before we had allowed people to loosely participate in Clan Quest, we began to expect that the people we care for, and play with, hold us to a similar priority. Ever since, Membership in the Clan has been bound to an expectation of participation and commitment.

I need to state here, that my personal opinion on the question of commitment from membership has changed dramatically, back-and-forth, over the years. At one point, I argued that the benefits of Clan Quest’s communities should be exclussive to its members, and tried to bar guests entirely- I was overwhelmed by the contrary responses from our membership-at-large. Apparently, though there still existed some expectation of our members, an understanding that people not “officially” part of Clan Quest were still part of the family.

Nowadays I look back on the history of things and I see membership in a different light. I’ve come to realize something that I’m not sure others have. At the risk of being accused of scheming, I’ve decided to be transparent and just tell everyone what I know. When leaders and members of other communities get a sampling of Clan Quest, they come here. Certainly, there are people whose interests change, and as a result move onto other commitments with other communities outside our own. But look at the people who were part of communities, and how important they are to us now. Look at how many of our members, after leaving to experience new things, come back. Clan Quest is just that amazing.

“So? What does that matter, Draz?”

Well the truth of this is simple. We’ve designed a standard of expectation for our members, and limited it to a condition within the game of RuneScape. But this is a problem, because Clan Quest CAN BE MORE. We have to change our perspective of membership from being represented solely in a game, and instead understood as membership within a greater community. Why can’t the leaders and members of other communities participate in Clan Quest? It’s worked pretty damn well for us in the past. This magazine was founded by a clan leader of another clan ( Daviddts ). Our Website was built in large part by the leader of another community ( RSBandB / Shane ).

We’ve all come from somewhere. But the binding glue that holds us together, is our community. If we can broaden our understanding of what membership is, maybe we can catch some more people with that glue, especially people who couldn’t even consider joining before.

What happens when the inevitable happens and they fall in love? Well we steal a few new members from other communities.

And as we begin to consider expanding into other games, something important might happen. The people who cannot be an exclusive member of our Runescape Clan Channel, might just become some of our most important members in another guild.

The Gu'Tanoth episode.

So hoods.

This is Choto, once again. I managed to gather the courage to write another Noob’s Ramblings before october, so that’s a nice thing, right? RIGHT?

Aaaanyways. Something funny happened this month. Actually it was the absolute antonym of funny. At least for me. But some people who dared think this was funny are now buried in the Wilderness. So what happened? Well, I wanna say I’ve achieved a whole new noob level. This was, probably, my Quixote, my 9th symphony, my Eiffel Tower, my Mona Lisa, my- you get the point.

Earlier this month, I was doing some hard clue scrolls. I did a 3 steps clue, followed by a 2 steps one. Lucky day, eh? But I guess RNG always stabs me in the back. For you see, my 4th and last scroll gave me the coordinates to dig on a specific spot on Gu’Thanoth. I had completed that step hundreds of times. What could go wrong?

Well, FOR STARTERS, you see this spot?

June 2018 019.png

Only thing I needed to do was to jump over that freaking wall, but OH NO, I HAD TO BE A NICE PERSON AND SAY HI TO THE OGRE GUARDS. AND GUESS WHAT. They told me I couldn’t come through, unless (there’s always an unless) I brought them something nice. So then I thought: “What’s nicer than a cake?”. I head to the Grand Exchange, buy the cake, take the cake to the ogre guards, and surprise, not only they didn’t let me in, but they pushed me off the cliff.

At this point I was really annoyed.

Obviously, I did what any quester shood do and begged for help in the clan chat. Many suggested bringing the guards a rock cake. Of course! You had to do that in the quest! Cool!

Now where do I get a rock cake from? I’ll give you a clue: It starts with Gu and ends with ‘Thanoth. It just made no sense. Mr. Vss then offered to help me, and we spent 2 hours, 2 ****** HOURS trying to find a way in. I replayed the quest, step by step, visited the Skavids again, travelled through tunnels, spoke to wizards, got angry at wizards, yelled at wizards, bought more cakes and gold bars, sought help in the second google search page, got mad at Jagex and almost sent a bug report. I just left. I needed a break.

*thunder rolled*

2 or 3 hours later, I came back. Leo and Wolffi were in. I asked for help from the Hood and the Paw.fia. The meme and the former Zamorakian suggested I used a Gu’Tanoth teleport scroll. I was crying. I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A SCROLL. But, of course, it teleported me to the entrance. I still couldn’t get in. When I was about to denounce Jagex, Wolffi offered to buy a rock cake for me. He entered the market, stole a cake, and...untradeable.

But what if...I followed Wolffi...maybe...just maybe...I’d find a way in.

“Meet me at the entrance!”, I said.
So he did.

June 2018 020.png

-“Wolffi, where are you?”
-”At the entrance.”

-”I can’t believe it took you so long to figure this out”- Wolffi said.
