Preventing Stalemates against Lone King, by JoeTribiani

How many times has it happened to you that you've killed it in a game, annihilated every single of your opponents pieces, zapped out every ray of hope from his poor soul to reach a position of +25, but blundered in the end to gift them a stalemate draw? Maybe it was the time pressure. Maybe you failed to see that your bishop was blocking an escape square from a stupid million miles away. Or maybe you didn't realize that apparently your king will also cut down escape routes. Whatever it was, it left you with intense rage, making you flip your laptop or defenestrating your mobile. Fear no more my friend, for once you are done with this guide, your gadgets will be safe from your anger. the misery you inflicted upon your opponent will be his to bear forever.

PREREQUISITES & THE REQUIRED SETUP

HOW TO PREVENT THE STALEMATE - THE GENERAL IDEA

The General Idea behind this checkmate pattern is very simple and intuitive - give your opponent king as much space as he wants - and he won't get stalemated. We let him roam free in a huge, albeit limited, area. We get rid of any material he might annoying hide behind. And then we chop off all the escape squares at once.

The other idea behind this pattern is to save time by making extra moves. Now, that may sound contradictory, because the fewer moves we make the less time we take, right? NO! That is not the case every time, because even when we have an easy Mate in 4, figuring it out might need as many as 5 to 10 seconds. But in this slow and simple 20 move strategy - EVERY SINGLE MOVE can be a premove. Therefore, even 30 moves would only need about 3 seconds on the clock, since pre-moves take only 0.1second (on chess.com at least).
