This is another quest I have no memory of, which is kind of funny considering how often I use the Kandarin Monastery teleport spell.

I didn't get a screenshot of this dialogue, which is unfortunate, but Brother Omad wants me to retrieve the blanket of another monk's infant son.

...okay? I thought monks were supposed to take a vow of chastity? Maybe it's his son from before he became a monk, whatever.

Anyway, Omad gives me some very vague directions: west of the monastery, near the battlefield, in a ring of stone. I ended up wandering all over those few square tiles for about twenty minutes, and I could not find the damn thing. The only thing I could find were the ladders south of the clock tower, which got me to see where I needed to go, but couldn't actually get there. To my shame I once again consulted a walkthrough, which didn't give me much more to go on but did finally put me on the right track, and I think I can be forgiven for not spotting it:

I'm playing Twoie on a different computer than I normally play on, so I can afford to have the graphical settings turned up. Unfortunately that makes the stone circle nearly invisible (in my defense, I'm also very tired). So that's a gripe. Another gripe is that the blanket is guarded by three level 20+ thieves, who don't activate at any point. I realize this is a novice quest, so the levels are maybe a bit high, but I feel like if you're going to the trouble of putting enemies around a quest object, at least have them put up a bit of a fight when I try to take it. I mean, they want to all the trouble of stealing it; do they not want it?

Whatever, I'm back to Brother Omad. This time he wants me to find Brother Cedric, who's wandered off with the monks' wine. When pressed, Omad says that he suspects Cedric took a wrong turn. Here's where I found Cedric:

That's the roof of the monastery in the background, and the edge of the Ardougne zoo in the bottom right. I don't entirely blame Brother Cedric for this, he's obvious three sheets to the wind and enjoying himself (though why he decided to tap into the wine so quickly is a bit of a concern), but I'm once again perplexed by the scale of the world. Brother Omad, just how little do you think of poor Cedric that you suspect he may have taken a wrong turn on the way to Ardouge, when Ardougne is visible from your front door?

*Sigh* Put another tick next to Scale Theory, and let's move on already.

A couple of small fetch quests for Brother Cedric, and we're done.

Holy crap, 2000 Woodcutting experience? That's a lot of experience this early in the game, and got me 9 whole levels. That reward seems more than a bit unbalanced, considering the level of the quest.

General thoughts are that there are some strange design choices in this quest, in hindsight. The way to progress aren't well signposted at times (though that may be a graphical issue; this quest was introduced in Runescape Classic, after all), and it's weird that there are fightable NPCs who don't impede your progress at all. In what I feel like is going to be a bit of a running theme with these early quests, it doesn't really fit.
