Every Guild with aims to recruit new members should have some form of a "Recruitment post", for example a thread on a forum relevant to your Guild's specific interests. There are plenty of creative ways to go about this, and while you might want to go ahead and create all official means of recruitment from scratch, this basic outline for creating a Recruitment Thread has been provided as a "jumping off point".

Please see the Template at the bottom of this guide for easier generation of a simple recruitment thread.

What to Include

Introduction

You should always begin a recruitment thread with an introduction to your Guild. Present your focus interest, your goals, and the Guilds strengths overall. You may also want to headline your introduction with some kind of logo, whether it be a formal graphic image or ASCII art. Something that will catch a prospective members attention and make them want to keep reading. They say that an employer will spend an average of six seconds reviewing a resume, and members can act in a similar fashion when choosing a Clan/Guild. Your introduction should be short, interesting, and present exactly who you are and what you offer. Below you can find a simplified version of the Questing Clan of RuneScape's introduction that you might base your own introduction post off of. Red colored text is information you should enter specifically for your Guild.

(Your Guild/Clan Quest logo)

Hello, Hola, Olá, Bonjour, Guten Tag, Ni Hao, Hallo, privyet, Kon'nichiwa, and as-salam 'alaykum!

Welcome to the Recruitment Thread for (your Guild name)!

(your Guild name) is the official (game name) Guild of Clan Quest! (Brief excerpt about your Guild's "theme". For example, from the Questing Clan of RuneScape: "All of us are united by our love of Quests and Lore. As a clan, we specialise and have a strong interest in completing every quest in game. Our members particularly enjoy helping others to achieve this goal through skilling and advice.") If this sounds like the Guild for you, read on!

About the Guild

Once you have created an introduction to your Recruitment Thread, and hopefully drawn people in, you should then focus on describing what your Guild is about in greater detail. Here you could give a brief history about your Guild, provide information on how to reach you ingame, establish your core values, gloat about your achievements, and so on. This section should only be as long as it needs to be and no longer. Your "About" section should very clearly define who you are, what you're looking for, and what you've done in as few words as possible. Below you can, again, find a simplified version of the "About" section used by the Questing Clan of RuneScape.

Our channel ingame is: (Ingame channel name)

(your Guild name) was founded (date founded) by (founder/s). (Brief history on how the founders came together, how the Guild became "legit", how the Guild was formally "recognized", any major shakeups or events, whatever is applicable.)

(Your Guild's achievements, if applicable. The Questing Clan of RuneScape's reads as: "Clan Quest was featured in the Clan Blog (By Mod Timbo) August 4th, 2010, and featured again during the “Clan Celebration Month” of March, 2011. With the creation of our own website, continued recognition from Jagex and the game community, Clan Quest has steadily increased in popularity.")

(Close out the "About" section here. Just a little bit of extra information to help sell yourself. For example: "As it stands now, Clan Quest has absorbed multiple questing and event clans, has over 400 members, and is the largest Questing Community in Runescape! Clan Quest is also listed on the Runescape Clan Wiki, Runehead, Official Runescape Wiki, and has its own RuneScape Fansite.")

Your Rules/Clan Quest Rules

Once you've introduced your Guild you can get into the more specific/technical aspects of recruitment. One of the single most important things to include on your Recruitment Thread are the rules by which all members are expected to abide by. These include not only the rules set by your Guild Council, but the rules of Clan Quest as a whole, as well as the rules of your Guild's host game. While the latter may be implied, the first two should absolutely be included. Sometimes your Guild will not have any rules in addition to those set by Clan Quest, and that is fine. Your "Rules" section should resemble something like this:

To ensure that everyone in our Guild has the most fun, certain rules are in place to protect both members and visitors alike. All participants are expected to follow our Clan's rules. All members of the Clan are assumed to have read and agreed with the rules. Failure to adhere to these rules can result in consequences varying in severity.

(2) No insulting or offensive behavior.
(3) No spamming.
(4) Conflict? Deal with it out of public!
(5) No inappropriate or offensive usernames. Must notify us of any name change.
(6) Avoid sensitive topics as they can cause conflict, and be respectful of divergent behavior/viewpoints.
(7) All clan members must abide by our Canon of Ethics.
(8) Do not post spoilers in publicly visible chats.
(9) Play fair. Play smart. Give it your all.
(10) Be a noob, and be nice to other noobs.

How to Apply/Requirements

Of course, what is the purpose of a Recruitment Thread if not to recruit? At some point you should include a section detailing the requirements to join your Guild and, if met, how to apply for membership. All of this information varies Guild to Guild, but most of the information should already have been determined by your Guild Council, so it's just a matter of writing it down in an easily readable format. In addition to your Guild's requirements, you might consider requiring new members to sign up on the Clan Quest website in order to attain membership.

You may also apply to our Guild through the official Clan Quest website! Ask a Guild Councilor for more information!

Application

Next comes the application. The complexity of the application you use is entirely up to your Guild Council, but generally a Guild will require prospective members fill in a blank form to apply to their Guild. These allow you easy access to information about the applicant, such as their name(s), ingame level/power/rank/etc, how they found your Guild, if they've read the rules, and so on. Additionally, an application can be used to gather information on a users personality. Answers to questions such as "Would you rather walk a mile in another man's shoes, or carry the man the mile?" or "If you close both eyes, can you still see?" or even "If you know what you do not know, do you know everything?" can be telling about someone; they could give anything from an ultra-serious answer to something entirely sarcastic, or even downright weird. In general, an application is a good way to get to know an applicant at your proverbial "front door".

Please copy and paste the below form in a reply to this thread, and complete all sections with your best answers.

(game name) name/previous names(if applicable):
Have you read our rules? Do you agree with them?: Do you accept becoming a part of the Clan Quest family, and will you respect other members, even if your opinions differ?:
Have you created an account on the Clan Quest website? What is the name of your account?:

Do you have any questions about our Guild, this thread, the application, etc.?:

Other

Of course, everything above is a bare bones outline of what your Recruitment Thread should include. If you feel you need some more information, a different set of information, or even that you don't need some of the information above, then that is entirely your perogative. The Questing Clan of RuneScape, for example, has two extra "About" section describing the importance of "Questing" and "Noobness" to its community, a section detailing how its "Sponsorship" system works, and a section going into detail on the ingame "ranks". All of these things are unique to that Guild, and may not be relevant to yours. So turn the cogs of creativity in your brain and put together the Recruitment Thread that works best for your Guild!

Example

Of course, seeing everything written above can seem arbitrary or intimidating. You might have some ideas of what you might do, but there's still so many blanks left to fill in that you might just have no idea what to do. Members of the Clan Council are always willing to aid you in this regard, but may not be available to set it all up for you. As such, an example Recruitment Thread for a fictional Guild has been created so that you can see what yours might look like, using the basic information above. Please visit the Questing Clan of RuneScape's recruitment thread for a more practical, real, example.

The Questing Clan of RuneScape Classic was founded on August 6th, 2018 by a group passionate about questing, lore, and just having a good time. The Guild was quickly recognized by the games developer, Jagex, and added to their official "Clan registry". The Guild continued to grow and grow until its ranks included all of the "Quest Noobs" that its founders knew, and then it kept growing.

As it stands, our Guild is the single largest Questing Guild in all of RuneScape Classic with more than 300 full time members. It has absorbed several other smaller questing and lore Guilds, and has been officially sponsored on the official RuneScape Wiki, the RuneScape Clans Wiki, and the official Jagex blog. It even has its very own website!

Ever been called a noob? Fear not, for this is no bad thing! In our clan, it’s considered a term of endearment, with many of our members incorporating the word ‘noob’ into their nicknames. Everybody starts out inexperienced, and we encourage our members to learn and grow together. Noobs need XP too! If you’re not an expert, you’re a noob. But you’re OUR noob! Since nobody is an expert in everything... we are all noobs!

Rest assured, if you are called a noob you are considered a part of our clan family. We take this very seriously! Feel free to call any of us noobs (as long as you remain polite) and please mind our intentions if you are addressed as a noob.

Template

You can copy and paste the template below onto any Wiki page(might I recommend your own personal Sandbox) to generate a very basic Recruitment Thread similar to the one in the example above. It will only be available in plain text, meaning you will need to do additional formatting for colors/underlines/italics/etc. as per the system available on the platform you're using. You only need to fill in the relevant lines, you can leave whatever you don't need blank.
